A lot has happened in NY sports! Let’s get into it!
KNICKS: 12-31
RJ Barret has sprained his ankle and is out for at least a week. Also, the losses keep piling on despite Julias Randle and Mitchel Robinson trying to keep this team competitive.
121-98 to the Suns and 90-87 to the 76ers at home dropped the Knicks to 11-31. But a 106-86 blowout win over the Cavs ended the losing streak.
NETS 18-24:
Kyrie Irving was right. The Nets do need “More pieces” to be a good team in the NBA, because even with this squad and him, they unfortunately haven’t been getting it together against good teams.
Two late losses to the 76ers (117-108 and 117-111) coupled with a 118-107 loss to the Jazz and a crushing 117-97 loss to the 38-6 Milwaukee Bucks (And the MVP Giannis Atetakumpo) have put the Nets right back where they were last year. Fighting for a playoff spot in the weak Eastern conference. Of these 4 losses, 3 of them have been in Barclays Center, so it’s not like they’re falling at home here.
Also, all of these games have seen collapses in the 4th, with the losses to Philly being the most disappointing of them all, because it has been proven now that the 76ers are “The Nets killers”, with them being 6-1 in their last 7 games against Brooklyn dating back to last season’s playoff series.
Spencer Dinwidee and Jarret Allen have continued their fine play despite the losing efforts.
RANGERS: 23-20-4
Karma man! It’s unbelievable! It was an amazing feeling heading into this past weekend, after a late 3-2 win over the Islanders in Nassau Coliseum, where Alexander Gegroviev made 46 saves and Chris Kreider sent home the game-winning goal with 25 seconds left, to complete a sweep of the week against their rivals making it a good weeknight for Rangers fans.
This past Sunday (1/19), felt good too, as Brady Skeji scored an early shorthanded goal, and the young IGor Shersterkin was playing amazing in goal for the Blue-shirts. But a defensive lapse and an unfortunate change led to two Blue Jackets goals, with the last one coming with 27 seconds remaining, lifting Columbus to a 2-1 win at MSG.
Karma man, just wow.
ISLANDERS: 28-18-5
Those two losses to the Rangers in between a 6-1 blowout win of the Red Wings hurt. But what was disappointing, was when the Isles went into Carolina and lost in an 8 round shootout 2-1. They played well, but couldn’t convert when they had chances to get the extra point.
This team is still good though, but the wild card teams in the Blue Jackets (26-18-8) (28-8-3) are right on their tail and are coming for that 3rd seed in the Metro division.
