MONDAYS W MARV 4/5/22

Welcome to spring time and welcome to April. Let’s delve into what our NY teams have been up too lately as they look to finish the regular season strong, and in the Yankees and Mets case, gear up for the Summer ahead.

KNICKS: 35-44

Officially eliminated, as fans now anticipate a summer searching for answers.

NETS: 40-38

The Wednesday match with Milwaukee reveled a rematch of last seasons game 7 between the Bucks and Nets at Barclays Center. Despite the 120-119 overtime defeat at the hands of Giannis(44 pts) and the reigning champions, Brooklyn the proper fight needed at this time of year, especially considering where they are in the standings.

RANGERS: 44-20-6

What began as a redefining week quickly turned into one to forget over the weekend.

The Rangers downed the Penguins 3-2, and then received heroics from trade deadline acquisition Andrew Copp, who’s overtime winner lifted the Blueshirts to a 5-4 overtime win over the Red Wings. But upon returning home, a lifeless performance in a 3-0 loss against the rival Islanders followed by a 4-3 shootout loss to the woeful Flyers despite a 3-0 comeback in the third period, have created some concern in Rangerstown as the team looks to get right for the playoffs.

The Magic number for New York is eight to officially secure their spot with 16 game left.

ISLANDERS: 32-27-9

The Islanders defensive stifling of the Rangers in addition to their home-home sweep of the Blue Jackets this week is reminiscent of what they’ve been like for the past two seasons and they’re only showing that they’ll be a contender next season when everything resets. Goaltender Semyon Varlamov is coming off one of the best weeks of his career, as the netminder backstopped the Isles with 42 saves in a 4-3 win at Columbus, and was between the pipes for the 5-2 win at UBS on Thursday and for his fourth straight shutout at MSG less than 24 hours later.

On Sunday, Corey Schneider tended the goal for the first time in two years and made 39 saves while Jean Gabriel-Pageau recorded his second career hat trick(Both in jersey) as the Islanders winning ways continued with a 4-3 win over the Devils. This hot streak may not translate to a playoff berth, but it sure does bode well for next season when the fishsticks can return to cup-contending form with the same core in tact.
