MONDAYS WITH MARV 1/21/19!!

Wow!!!

What a Sunday!!! What happened? Well sit back relax, and let me describe to you what happened around the sports world!!!

NFL:

NFC Championship game:

Rams 26 Saints 23 OT

The Saints running game, their loud fans ,( So loud that they broke part of the ceiling in the stadium) and their defense were all over the Rams early , staking out to a 13-0 lead after 15 minutes. However, the Rams showed their fight late in the second , as a successful fake punt, made way for an FG, which pulled the Rams to within 13-3, in what seemingly would be the last points of the half.

But just before halftime, Todd Gurley snuck across the goal line for a TD, and the Rams were back in it only down 13-10 at the break.

In the 3rd, the Saints came out with avenges, stopping the Rams offense and scoring a Touchdown by TAYSOM Hill to take a 10 point lead!!!!

But the Rams weren’t done, as they came right back with a TD of their own to cut their deficit to 3.

In the 4th, a Rams FG, on a controversial 4th and goal call by LA coach Sean Mcvay ( Should they go for it or not?) tied the game at 20 as the game headed to its final minutes.

For Saints QB Drew Brees, this was nothing new to him , as he led the Saints into FG range with under 2 minutes left.

The exact situation was 1:48 on the clock 3rd and 10 at the LAR 13, when Brees threw in incomplete passes to Trevor Lewis, that would have been a catch if Rams defender Nickel -Roby Coleman didn’t push him out of the way thus causing a pass interference call on the Rams.

But the refs didn’t call it , in what was an obvious non-call that came back to haunt the Saints, as they accomplished their mission of a potential “ Game wining field goal” early , as the Rams still had 1:41 seconds with the ball, Instead of 25 seconds.

Because of that time difference, the Rams responded with an FG of their own in 82 seconds, to send the game to overtime.

Overtime was simple, Brees throws a pick, the Rams get the ball, and have Greg Zuerlein, kick a 57 yard GWFG , to send the Rams to the Super Bowl for the 1st Time in 20 years , via a 26-23 Overtime victory over the Saints!!!!

AFC Championship:

Patriots 37 Chiefs 31 OT

The Patriots were all over the Chiefs in the 1st half, going up 14-0. The key to their early success, was mentally outsmarting the KC defense and offense, causing them to adjust in the second half.

That’s exactly what they did, as Mahomes led the Chiefs down the field and in the blink of an eye it was 14-7.

After a Patriots FG, Mahomes led his team down the field for another FG that cut the Kc deficit to 3.

The 4th quarter, was insane!!!

Shortly after the KC stopped the Pats on 4th and Inches, the Pats were set to get the ball back again ( As) their defense forced a KC 3 and out), when Julian Edelmen fumbled the punt return, that KC scooped up and ran back for a TD! However, the refs ruled that Edelmen never even touched the ball( When it clearly did), giving the Patriots the ball, and sending the Chiefs faithful into an uproar!

However, Khmara always wins, as 2 plays later, Edelman tipped a pass, that was intercepted by KC, which led to a TD, giving the Chiefs a 21-17 lead!!

But Patriots legendary QB, Tom Brady wasn’t worried, as he has been in these situations many times before, as he led the Pats to a TD drive that gave them a 24-21 lead ( Even getting help from the refs, as they called a roughing -the - passer penalty on KC, that clearly wasn’t, keeping the drive alive)

But just like their shootout earlier this season ( In which the Pats won 43-40), Mahomes wasn’t going down quietly, as he led the Chiefs on yet another TD drive that put them up 28-24 with 2:03 left, leaving TB, with plenty of time to give his team the lead back.

That happened, as KC got the ball back, with 37 seconds left, and trailing 31-28, with all eyes on Patrick Mahomes to see if he can at least tie this thing up and force overtime.

Patrick did it , going toe-to -toe with TB into overtime, tied at 31, after a Chiefs FG.

In overtime, the Patriots won the coin toss, thus ending the game , as Tom Brady led his team on a game winning TD drive to put the Patriots in their 9th Super Bowl in the last 17 years!!!

Note:

It will be Refs vs Refs in the SB. Let’s see what happens!!!

Australian Open:

On day 2 of the round of 16, there were upsets, but not 6, like the other day. Nevertheless, let’s get into them.

No 28 seed Lucas Pouliee advanced to the Quarterfinals, a rare feat for him by upsetting number 11 seed, Bora Coric 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 , 7-6.

The number 4 seed Alexander Zerev was outplayed and outclassed by 16 seed, Milosz Raonic , 6-1, 6-1, 7-6. Milos will face Lucas in the quarterfinals.

This may have not been an upset, but it was one for the ages! Men’s number 8 seed, Kei Nishikori, defeated no 23 seed Pablo -Careano - Bustia , 6-7, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6!!!!

The 5th set went to a 10 point tiebreaker, that featured some controversy, from Pablo.

Leading 8-5, Pablo hit a shot into the net, that hit the top and hit the “ Out”

Part of the court. Pablo challenged the call, and it turned out that it was in! This means , that the players should replay that point. However, the umpire, said that Kei finished the point ( Which he did), and therefore won that point. But Pablo claimed that he thought it was over, because “ Out was called “ ( Which is true). This turned the screws in the tiebreak, as Nishikori came back and won the breaker 10-8, which put him in the quarterfinals, against number 1 seed Novak Djokovic.

The biggest upset of the day happened on the women’s side, as legend Serena Williams( Seeded 16th) defeated number 1 seed Sonoma Halep, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4!!

She will face number 7 seed, Pliskova in the QF.
