MORNING'S WITH MARV 4/10/21: KNICKS RALLY PAST GRIZ, RANGERS STUN ISLES+ RAYS BEST YANKS AGAIN @TB.

Welcome to today’s series of “Mornings with Marvin”, as we take a look at what happened last night (4/9) in the world of Sports.

NBA;

KNICKS 133 GRZZILIES 129F/OT

When the Knicks got down 15 points at MSG to the 26-23 Memphis Grizzlies, and saw themselves down 106-93 after a Grayson Allen trey with 6:10 left in the fourth, Knicks nation began to embrace reality. Yes this team has been fun to watch, and the biggest surprise in the NBA this season, by already overachieving their expected win total of 22.5 a couple of weeks ago. But now ever since the all-star break, the NYK have come back looking overmatched(Already 2-5 since then), and unable to find ways towing contests like they had prior, and simultaneously were tumbling downward in the Eastern Conference standings. But then, an inspiring 13-4 run spurred by Rj Barret, had cut the Memphis lead down to 110-106 with 1:54 remaining, sending the Garden crowd into a frenzy. The final stretch saw tightly contested basketball, with both teams leaving it all on the floor in game with possible NBA Play-in implications as the shortened 72 game regular season dwindles. Finding his team now down three at 112-109 after a Julius Randle three-point play, Rj Barret stepped up for what he hoped to be was the game-tying shot with 37 seconds to go, but instead was fouled, and was headed to the charity stripe for the opportunity instead. rJ stayed composed knocking down all three free-throw to tie the game, before doing so once more with 8.8 ticks on the clock, banking a driving layup, eventually sending the game to overtime tied at 114.

Riding momentum, and with the crowd on their side, the Knicks erupted for a 15-10 run, led by big shots from RJ, Randle, and Alec Burks, who would later nail down the game-sealing free-throws, for a 133-129 NY victory, effectively saving the season.

NHL:

In his first start since March 19th, Alexander Georgic made 31 saves, while Alexi Lafrenire, Collin Blackwell, Keandre Miller, and Mika Zibanejad(Empty net) , all put the puck into the net, as the Rangers(19-16-5) bested the Islanders(26-11-4) on Friday night at Nassau Coliseum. Putting them within three games of the Bruins with 16 left to play. The win for the Rangers evens the season series at two games apiece, while the loss+ the Capitals(26-11-4) 4-3 win over the lowly Buffalo Sabres(9-25-6),knocked the Islanders out of first place in the East Division.

MLB:

Brandon Lowe drove in three runs, leading a balanced Rays offensive attack in their 10-5 drubbing of the Yankees, on Friday in Tampa Bay. Rich Hill had an auspicious beginning to his start, serving up four runs to the Bombers with two outs in the third, including a go-ahead-two run HR by Aaron Hicks that temporarily put New York ahead 4-2. But Tampa Bay would fight back right away, as a Joey Wendle RBI double, and a go-ahead Randy Arozereana RBI double, gave TB the lead, knocking Yankees starter Corey Kluber out of the contest, after just 2.1IP. Brandon Lowe would blow the game open with a three run doubloon the fourth, before a Yandy Diaz RBI single in the sixth, and a Willy Adames solo shot in the seventh, putting the game out of reach. Meanwhile, Rich Hill settled into his start, going six strong innings, aside from the four spot in the third. DJ Lemaihue would go deep for the Yankees in the eight, making it his first road HR of the season. Prior to the game, the Rays unveiled their AL EAST, and AL PENNANT championship banners. TB went 8-2 in the 2020 regular season against the Yankees, before knocking them out in five games in the ALDS, en route to an AL pennant.
