MORNING'S WITH MARV 4/7/21: COLE CARVES UP O'S, NYR KEEPS PLAYOFF HOPE ALIVE WITH ROUT OVER PENS!

Welcome to today’s series of “Mornings with Marvin”, as we take a look at what happened last night (4/6) in the world of Sports.

MLB:

GAME 2: ORIOLES 2 YANKEES 7

Gerrit Cole was in a word “Electric” in this one, while the offense continued to put runs up on the board, as the Yankees rolled to a series-clinching win over Baltimore.

The scoring began in the second inning, as Jay Bruce went yard for his first big fly as a Yankee, off Orioles starter Dean Kremer, putting NY ahead 1-0. In the fourth, a double play by DJ LeMahieu, brought home a run, before an Aaron Judge RBI single, stretched the advantage to 3-0. In the seventh, a Giancarlo Stanton RBI double, and a Judge three-run moonshot put the game out of reach, as the Yankees forged ahead 7-0 for the second straight night. Meanwhile, Gerrit Cole was absolutely brilliant, giving the crowd their money’s worth, by going 7 scoreless innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, and a whooping 13 strikeouts. He looked like the man that is making $36 million in 2021, and if the Yankees can constantly get that from him, it’s going to be a fun year.

After a scoreless eighth by Chad Green, Baltimore put up their first runs of the series, with Rio Ruiz going deep off Lucas Lutege spoiling the shutout bid.

The win puts the Yankees over .500 for the first time this season at 3-2.

GAME 2; METS 8 PHILLIES 4

Dom Smith went deep early and drove in two runs, Marcus Stroman wnet. 6 innings of 1 run ball, and Pete Alonso went deep late to seal a very well balanced 8-4 Metswin over the Phillies, to even up the series at a game apiece. The win was highlighted by the Mets four run seventh inning including a steal of home by Brandon Nimmo, before a Micheal Conforto RBI double increased the Mets lead to 6-1. Edwin Diaz had a bit of a struggle in the ninth as he allowed two runs, but Pete Alonso’s two run bomb minutes earlier had made 8-2 NY,so their wasn’t much to be nervous about as faros the game went.
