Justin Wilson(1IP), Jonathan Losiga(2IP),and Luis Cessa(1IP) would keep the Yankees close, but Tampa pitching led by their bullpens 6.2 scoreless innings after Chris Archer departed the game due to injury, sealed the victory. Andrew Kittrdge(1.2IP), Jeffrey Springs(2IP), Ryan Thomson(1IP), Chris Reed(1IP), and Chris Mayaza(1IP) were contributors in the effort.
Meanwhile in flushing, NY Jacob Degrom went seven innings of one run ball with 14 strikeouts, with a Lonnie Chisholm 402FT solo blast being the lone Marlins run against the Mets ace. But a six scoreless,10K performance by Taylor Rodgers, and scoreless farmers by Dylan Floro, Richard Bleier, and Yimi Garcia kept the NY hitters off the scoreboard. Miami would score two runs off Edwin Diaz in the ninth, with RBI singles by Jesuses Aguiar, and Miguel Rojas sealing the deal on a3-0 victory.
In Houston, Ramon Laureano blasted a two run HR, and Seth Brown went deep for his first MLB round-tripper keying Oakland’s(3-7) 7-3 win over the Astros(6-3), making it the A’s first win over their AL West rivals in six tries.
Randal Grichuk had five RBIs, and Lourdes Gurriel JR ripped a three run double, setting the stage for a seven run second inning, as the Blue Jays obliterated the Angles 15-1 in Florida. Steven Matz went six innings of one run ball in the win, while Tommy Milone took care of the other three for the Jays.
NHL:
The. Flyers(19-15-6) defeated the Boston Bruins(21-11-6) 3-2 at Wells Fargo Center, putting the Rangers(19-16-5) within 2.5 games of the last spot in the East with 16games remaining in the regular season.
In Nashville Andre Vaselevski stopped all 36 shots he faced, as the reigning champion Tampa Bay Lightning(28-11-9) received goals from Ross Colton, Erik Cernak, and and empty-netter by Yani Gourde to finish off a 3-0 shutout of the Nashville Predators(22-19-1) to remain in a tie for first place in the Central division with the upstart Carolina Hurricanes(27-9-4).
In ST Louis, captain Ryan’O Reilly sent home the game winner with just two seconds remaining in overtime, as the Blues(19-16-6) dispatched the Wild(24-13-3) 3-2, keeping. Pace for the third seed in the West.
