MY FENWAY EXPERIENCE 7/28/19: YANKEES 9 RED SOX 6

Live from Fenway Park! Follow along here!!!

1ST INNING:

I’m grateful and thankful to my Mom for the wonderful seats that I’m seeing this game in. The Green Monster!!!

Sale and German have come out sharp and on their game. It seems like we may have a pitchers duel on our hands on a beautiful night in Boston!

Yankees 0 Red Sox 0

2ND INNING:

Once again both pitchers plowed through the inning with ease. Unfortunately for Domingo, the Yankees defense has been a little shaky behind him having already made an error, as well as the Red Sox bats working his pitch count up more then the Yankees have with Sale.

Yankees 0 Red Sox 0

3RD INNING:

SEE YA!!! 2-0 Yankees as one of the best backup catchers in the game Austin Romine takes Chris Sale deep and plating Camron Maybin as well, to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. It felt like Yankee Stadium for a moment as me and the other Yankees fans in attendance got our “Let’s go Yankees” chants on before they were booed out by the Bosox fans here at Fenway.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Domingo continued to keep the Boston hitters off their game and preserve the Yankees 2-0 advantage after 3 innings, leaving the Boston faithful stunned asking themselves “Who is this guy?”

Yankees 2 Red Sox 0

4TH INNING:

GONE! DIDI Gregorious goes deep for a 2run HR to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead. I decided to skip the 3rd because it went quickly and was uneventful with German and Sale posting zeros on the scoreboard keeping the score 2-0 before DIDIS 2 run blast that plated Luke Voit to put the Yankees up by a “Grand Slam” in Beantown.

The Red Sox would come right back however, as Andrew Benentendi socked a 2run HR to right in the bottom half of the frame to get the Red Sox Closer and cut the Yankees lead down to 4-2.

Yankees 4 Red Sox 2

6TH INNING:

After a scoreless 5th, the game entered the 6th with the Yankees looking to add to their slim 4-2 lead and they did just that, as Gio Urshela stayed red-hot in the batters box as he plated home Didi with an RBI double that for knocked Chris Sale out of the game and gave the Yankees a 5-2 lead. Sale didn’t get a warm ovation from his home crowd, as he walked off to the mound to some loud boos as it had been the 3rd time this season in 3 tries the Yankees had gotten to the Red Sox ace.

Having gotten to Sale, the Yankees looked to feast on the Red Sox bullpen and they did that as well in the 6th as Maybin drove home Urshela with an RBI single to put the Yankees up 6-2 after 5.5 innings of play.

In the bottom of the 6th German seemed to run out of gas, as he allowed a single and a double, before forcing his last batter of the day in Red Sox slugger JD Martinez into an RBI groundout, shaving the Yankees lead down to 6-3, as German departed having given the Yankees a quality start, something the Yankees haven’t seen their starting pitchers do in less then a week!

Tommy Kahlene came out of the Yankees pen and got 2 quick outs to preserve the Yankees 6-3 lead after 6 innings of play.

Yankees 6 Red Sox 3

7TH INNING:

Over the course of games, teams are blind to make mistakes and it’s your job to capitalize on those mistakes if u want to give yourself a chance as coming away the winner. Well in the 7th, that’s what the Yankees did, as with bases loaded and 1 out, DIDI Gregorious hit a fly ball that Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley JR caught in shallow territory as for the moment nobody advanced.

But with Luke Voit running, Bradley attempted to double up Voit at 1B, before his throw sailed into the dugout, being an automatic double and allowing 2 Yankees runs to score, as their lead grew to 8-3.

In the bottom of the 7th, Kahlene got a quick out, before allowing a single, and was relieved for Adam Ottavino who immediately ran into trouble, as he was victimized by a Didi throwing error, as he attempted to get Jackie out at second on the Christan Vazquez single. This error allowed Jackie to head to 3rd, to set the Red Sox up with runners on the corners with one out and Mookie Betts at the dish.

Until now, the Fenway Faithful had been pretty quiet, especially the Green Monster until now as the noise in the ballpark was deafening now with the reigning AL MVP stepping up to the plate with a chance to get the Red Sox back in the game and rejuvenate the hopes of a sweep over the Yankees.

As for me, I was nervous now thinking “ Come on Otto, I’ll take a run for an out, just don’t give him a pitch to drive. It will get them back in the game and all that momentum we had built until now will be gone.”

Well, as you would expect on paper, Otto vs Betts lived up to the hype as the count ran full at 3-2 before Mookie lofted a sac fly that gave the Red Sox only one run, to make it an 8-4 game as relief washed over my face while the Fenway Faithful quieted.

But in the blink of an eye, the home fans were on their feet again, as Yankee- Killer Rafael Devers doubled, to put runners on 2nd and 3rd with another Yankee-Killer Xander Bogarts coming to the plate and a chance to put the Red Sox back in the game.

But Otto came up clutch, as he got Xander to line out to right to end the threat and keep the Yankees in the lead at 8-4.

Yankees 8 Red Sox 4

8TH INNING:

Needing insurance runs, the Yankees continued to pounce on Bosox errors, as Maybin sprinted home on a wild pitch to give the Yankees a 9-4 lead.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Red Sox threatened again, as they loaded the bases with 1 out against Zack Brittion, as Bradley JR stepped up with a chance to give the Red Sox life in this game once again.

But fortunately for the Yankees,Brittion regained his form just in time, as he struck out Bradley and forced Vazquez into a groundout to end the threat and preserve the Yankees 9-4 lead heading into the 9th.

Yankees 9 Red Sox 4

9TH INNING:

Aroldis Chapman is on to try and protect a 9-4 lead and lock up the win for the Yankees here at Fenway. However, Chapman quickly gets himself in a 2nd and 3rd 1 out jam, but is able to strike out Martinez, and though he did allow a 2 run single to Andrew Benentendi, he struck out Michel Chavis to end the game and lock up a 9-6 Yankees win.

MVP: It’s a tough one, but Domingo German is your MVP tonight, as his quality start sent the Yankees on their way to victory.

OFF THE FIELD...

It was amazing sitting up there in the Green Monster, and I even teased the Boston faithful a bit.

I busted out some dance moves in happiness as the Yankees were winning and responded to the classic “Yankees (Expletive)” chants with “Yankees Rock”!!

There was also this funny moment in the 7th, as Adam Ottavino got out of the 2 on 2 out jam, me and a Red Sox fan next to me clapped at the same time! I was clapping out of happiness, while he was clapping in disgust as the Red Sox failed to score there.

Another thing that captivated me was how the Red Sox fans heckled the Yankees relievers in those tight spots, and how the Yankees pitchers stayed focused and were able to get out of those jams to keep the Yankees in front.

After the Yankees won , I played “New York New York” to celebrate the win. That’s some I usally do after the Yankees win and there were no exceptions at Fenway!

“NICE HAT”

Have to give props to the lady that came head to toe in Red Sox gear, while also having a very cool hat that was made out of LEGO and had all 30 teams on the hat , as well as Fenway Park with all the Red Sox players inside and since they were facing the Yankees, it had Aaron Judge at the plate! That was really cool!!

“KEEP YOUR BROOMS”:

As we entered the park, their was a lady holding up a broom that said “Sweep the Yankees “, we were basically saying don’t be too sure about that and we were right as the Yankees were able to pull this game out, so the Boston faithful can keep their brooms as they will not be pulled out in this series!

But I have to admit , that was a nice looking broom though. Nice creativity!

FENWAY IS BEAUTIFUL:

What a ballpark! It’s old and historic, but small and the sound quality is amazing! You hear everything and there isn’t really a bad place to sit! You get so into it no matter who’s playing and that’s what I love about Fenway Park. It’s so intense! So much history behind it as well. So the next time you go to Boston, try and catch a game at Fenway Park. You won’t regret it!

POSTGAME:

Walking out to Landsdown Street after the game was amazing! It was great to see all of the Yankees fans high giving each other and dancing to the music that was being played by a drummer drumming along on Buckets! Me and my family joined in, and then after we finished, we got into it with some Red Sox fans about the game and how the Yankees have a 9 game lead in the AL East. Still a long way to go though.

We then walked to the parking lot, and saw all the Yankees players board the busses as they headed home from. Boston to New York to prepare for their next series.

We saw Chad Green, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Tyler Wade ( Who was called up today after CC went on the IL), David Hale ( A really good long reliver for the Yankees), Mike Tauchman, Edwin Encarnacion, Chapman, Brett Gardner, Cameron Maybin, CC, and many others board the busses after the win.

Glad to see that the players appreciated our support waving to us as the busses pulled out of Fenway Park. It was really an awesome end to an awesome night!

That 5:30 hour drive that we took earlier to get here for tonight’s game was worth it. Thanks Mom and Dad! Let’s go Yankees!

UP NEXT:

The Yankees have an off day Monday, before they host the Arizona DiamondBacks (53-54) in the Bronx on Tuesday in the opener of a two game series. It will be Taylor Clarke going for Arizona, against JA Happ of the Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers are 0-2 against the D Backs this season, as they were swept away in 2 games at Arizona in late April.

Game time is 7:05 PM.
