Before we get to Demarcus Cousins heading to the Warriors, let's recap the other moves that happened involving the Los Angeles Lakers. After renouncing rights to rookie Julias Randle, ( who later on Monday, signed with the Pelicans and asked the Lakers to renounce him ) , the Lakers sighed Rajon Rando from the New Orleans Pelicans , a 1 year deal worth $9M. The Pelicans tried to keep Rondo but weren't able to as the Lakers sighed a player who still has some skill left in him and is also very wise, so he can help LeBron mentor this young Lakers team. In other news, Steph Curry's brother Seth, sighned a 2 year deal with the Portland Trailblazers on Monday.
Finally, for the big news of the day , the Golden State Warriors reached a 1 year, $5.3M deal with 4 time All -star and one of the best centers in the NBA DeMarcus Cousins. This is a shock , as Demarcus didn’t even have the Warriors in his list of teams he set up meetings with , those teams were the Lakers, and now his former team the New Orleans Pelicans.
SO HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Well , at 5AM Monday morning, DeMarcus Cousins went to sit out on his balcony and re think everything, as he had received zero offers due to teams being concerned about his health.
After that , he called his agent , woke him up , and reviewed the scenarios that he came up with on his balcony. One of them was joining the Golden State Warriors, so after negotiating with teams , with one of them being the Boston Celtics , (who were the runner - up in landing DeMarcus).
Cousins called Draymond Green , Stephen Curry , Kevin Durant ,and Steve Kerr to get their honest opinions on him coming . Demarcus said that he was “Suprised by ( Stephs excitement ) which made him want to come to the Warriors even more .
At 8:00 PM ET on Monday night ( 7/2) Demarcus called the Warriors and said he was coming , and that was that !
Opinion: Safe move for Demarcus , now he can come back from his injury slower and can comeback stronger then ever before., for when the Warriors really need him to produce .
In terms of competitive balance, you have got to be kidding me !
As for the Warriors , great job on staying ahead of the LA Lakers.
