We’re about a quarter of the way through the NHL season and some teams are worth talking about, while others are so irreverent we have decided to leave them blank. Enjoy!
Story written: 12/5/21
1. Maple Leafs(17-6-2)
Jack Campbell has 13 wins which is tied atop the NHL leaderboard and the Maple Leafs are 15-2-1 in their last 18 games, a stretch that has seen John Tavares(11 goals 14 assists on the season) Austin Mathews( 14 goals 10 assists), and William Nylander(10 goals 13 assists) come alive.
Panthers(17-4-3)
Florida is 14-1 at home which is what has keyed this impressive start. They’re picking up from where they left off last season which was a playoff berth.
3. Capitals(15-4-6)
Alex Ovechkin is at 750 career goals and is just 154 shy of Wayne Gretzky. He’s been leading this Caps charge to begin the year.
4. Hurricanes(15-4-5)
They’re good. How so? They’re deep in about every position. Andrei Svechnikov ,Jordan Martinook, Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainrn, Ian Cole, Vincent Trochek and Tony Deangelo have been holding down the fort on the players side, while Anti Raanta has been stellar in goal.
5. Lightning(14-5-4)
The two time reigning cup champions are down Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point for a couple months yet are still wining games. A testament to their depth and championship metal.
6. Oilers(16-6)
Conner Mcdavid(16 goals, 26 assists, 42 points) and Leon Drasatiel(21 goals, 22 assists), and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins( 2 goals, 20 assists) have been the leaders yet again for an Edmonton team that has won 6 of 10.
7. Flames(14-5-4)
Calgary leads the league in shutouts and are 8-1-1 in their last 10. Andrew Mangiapane has 15 of of his 16 goals on the road, while Johnny Gaudreau leads the team in points with 27. Jacob Markstrom has five shutouts, while rookie Dan Vlader has chipped in with 2.
8. Wild(17-6-1)
Kapril Kapritzov leads the team with nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points but Cam Talbot has been the story for this first place team, entering Sunday with a 13-5 record, a 2.75GAA(Goals against average ) and a .915 save percentage.
9. Rangers(16-4-3)
They’ve won 10 of 11 games with many contributors. In goal, Igor Shesterkin had sported a gaudy 13-3-2 record, with a 2.05GAA, and an exceptional.937 save % before going on the IR Saturday due to a lower-body injury. On defense, 23 year old Adam Fox( 5 goals, 20 assists, 25 points) seems to be making his way towards his second straight Norris Trophy, while Chris Kreider(16 goals) and Artemi Panarin have been when it has come to offensive production. On Saturday night, Alexander Georgiev made 25 stops while the Bredman had a three point game in the Rangers 3-2 win over Chicago at MSG. The win was their 6th straight and 8th straight at home.
10. Golden Knights(13-10)
Overall, we’re waiting for their big winning streak, but considering they have Calgary up next, that’s tough to expect from the Western Conference favorites.
11. Penguins(11-8-5)
Jake Guentzel recoded a hat trick and an assist in the Pens 4-1 victory in Vancouver. The win puts the Penguins at 6-3-1 in their last 10, and holding onto the Wildcard spot in the Metropolitan division.
12. Blues(12-8-4)
ST Louis has suffered a couple of late losses to the Panthers and Lightning, but have looked playoff-caliber otherwise.
Avalanche(12-7-2)
Colorado had a sluggish start to the season, yet have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, as Gabriel Landeskog(8 goals, 16 assists) and Nathan Mackinnon( 1 goal, 15 assists) have awakened. Darcey Kemper has been solid in goal, going 9-5.
14. Ducks(13-8-4)
It’s unclear whether they’re legit or not, but the Ducks have been surprisingly good. Tory Terry leads the team with 25 points, while Trevor Zegras has 6 goals and 13 assists for 19 points as well.
15. Jets (11-8-4)
Kyle Conner has a 25 point season already, and Conner Hellybuck is 8-6-4 with a 2.68 GAA.
16. Bruins(12-8-1)
Boston is 6-3-1 in their past 10, and shutdown a pesky Nashville Predators squad 2-0 on Thursday with Jeremy Swayman making 42 stops, and battled the Lightning to earn a point in a 3-2 OT loss. Boston is playing how you would expect them to play right now. Tough, may not be the best, but always there.
BELOW SUPER 16:
17. Stars(12-7-2)
18. Red Wings(13-9-3)
Predators(13-10-1)
Sharks(13-10-1)
Blue Jackets(12-10)
22. Devils(9-9-4)
23. Kraken(9-13-2)
Looking like an expansion team so far. Not too impressive performance wise thus far.
Flyers(8-9-4)
We feel that Coach Alan Vigneault’s job is on the hot seat as this team has yet to to put it together.
25. Blackhawks(8-13-2)
26. Kings(9-9-4)
27. Senators(6-15-1)
28. Sabres(8-13-3)
29. Islanders(5-10-4)
10 game losing streak. Yikes what happened to the team that fell two goals short of the finals last season.
30. Canucks(8-15-2)
31. Coyotes(5-17-2)
32: Canadians( 6-17-3)
Just awful.
