NO SWEEP FOR YOU! PHILLIES TOP METS TO AVOID SWEEP.

It came down to the bullpens and once again the Mets weakness was exposed as they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 on Sunday night (9/1) in Philly. The loss means the Mets will have to settle for a 2-1 series win instead of a sweep but I think Mets fans will take that here.

Pete Alonso started this game off with a bang, as he went deep off Phillies starter Zach Eflin for his 43rd HR of the season in the 1st to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead. But the Phillies would come right back as Brad Miller would go deep off Marcus Stroman in the 2nd to tie the game before a Cory Dickerson RBI single gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead.

Stroman would settle down though as he would keep the Mets in it by going 6 innings of 2 run ball.

In the 8th, after Eflin had shut down the Mets by going 7 innings of 1run ball, the Mets tied it as a wild pitch scored Brandon Nimmo to even the game at two. But in the bottom of the 8th, Jeurys Familia struggled for the Mets and it ultimately cost them the sweep, as he faced Scott Kingry with the bases juiced and one out and gave up a 3run double that would ultimately give Philadelphia a 5-2 win.

MVP: Scott Kingry

THOUGHTS:

Tough loss. But I’m sure Mets fans will take the series win.

UP NEXT:

The Mets (69-67) will take on the red-hot Washington Nationals(77-58) who currently own the NLs first WC.

It will be Noah Syndergaard against Jason Ross. Game time is 1:05PM Monday (9/2) in DC.
