Novak Djokovic, followed up his Wimbledon championship victory, with a Cincinnati Open victory on Sunday (8/19), as this time he defeated Roger Federer in the finals, 6-4,6-3, to complete the masters 1000 career slam he became the first man, to win all of the nine 1000 masters tournaments in his career. It also marks the first Cincinnati Open finals victory for Novak, after failing five times prior. So with that, let's take a deep dive into this finals match!
FIRST SET:
Right from the start, you could see that Novak had changed his style of play, and was on the attack being aggressive from the get-go. Especially on his serve, as Novak was taking less time to hold serve, than Roger. Finally, in the 7th game, Roger blinked, as Novak broke serve, and maintained that break of serve to finish the first set with a 6-4 victory. Noteworthy to mention here, that both players showed off their skills through the match, with some incredible rally, and almost impossible shots!
SECOND SET:
When this set started, it seemed like Roger would have the upper hand, as he sprinted out to a 2-0 lead, only for Novak to come right back and tie the set at2. The 7th game, of the second set, (in my opinion) was the best of the match, as after Roger got up 40-0, Novak engineered a huge comeback in the game that included getting the game back to duce multiple times, before finally breaking Roger for a 4-3 lead, where Djokovic would never look back. Novak would go onto hold, and then (to my dismay) break Roger in the next game, to seal the Cincinnati Open Championship, with a straight-sets victory over Roger Federer.
With the win, Novak Djokovic moves up 4 spots in the ATP ranking to world number 6. As for Roger, he remains number 2 in the world behind rival Rafael Nadal for the world number 1.
UP NEXT: August 27th, the stars come to NYC! The final grand slam of the year, the US Open is taking place, should be a great one!
