You know what they say “There’s always another game tomorrow “ and that is what the Yankees will have to execute on Friday night, as they suffered their second embarrassing loss of the season 19-5 to the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night in the Bronx,Ny. This was the second blowout loss of the season for the Yankees with the first being 19-3 to the Red Sox in Boston on July 25th at Fenway Park.
It was obvious early that it wouldn’t be the Yankees night as they tagged Chad Green for 5 runs in the 1st, as Jose Ramirez went unloaded for a Grand Slam before Jason Kipnis made it back- to back jacks with a solo blast of his own. Later in the inning, Roberto Perez went deep for a 2run HR off Jonothan Losiga to give the Indians a 7 spot in the 1st inning!
That seemed to set the tone for the game, as Ramirez would blast another HR in the 2nd to give the Indians a 9-1 lead. That 2runHR gave Jose 6RBis on the night.
The Indians would continue to mash the back end of the Yankees bullpen throughout the game by mashing 7HRs in the contest and win it by the score of 19-5.
The Yankees bats would be shut down by Adam Plutko in this one, as only Gio Urshela , Didi Gregorious and Gary Sanchez were the only ones that could do anything off of him, as Gio singled home DJ LeMahieu in the bottom of the 1st inning, while Didi and Gary went deep for a solo shots in the 5th and 6th respectively.
Plutko would finish with a quality start by going 6 innings of 3 run ball.
The Yankees would get some “Garbage time runs” when Gio Urshela would single home his second run of the game in the 7th and Gleyber Torres would go deep for his 27th HR of the season in the 8th respectively.
MVP: Jose Ramirez
THOUGHTS:
At the end of the day, it’s only game in the standings. We still have a lot of room to work with there. Don’t worry we will be fine. At least we got to see Mike Ford pitch the last two innings even though he gave up 5 runs, he did get a strikeout! Maybe he can be a bullpen arm down the stretch ).
