ON THIS DAY IN SPORTS... (APRIL 8TH -12TH)

On this day in sports history...


APRIL 8TH:

1974: Congratulations Hank Aaron! Today is the day he broke Bale Ruth’s home run record with bomb number 715.


APRIL 9TH:

1959: Bill Sharman becomes “The master of FTs” at the time, by hitting his 56tg consecutive foul shot.


1989: The greatest base-stealer of all-time, Rickey Handreson nabs stolen base number 800.


APRIL 10TH:

1913: NY Highlanders (Later the Yankees) play 1st MLB game ever, but lose 2-1 to the Washington Senators.


1947: Jackie Robinson breaks the color barrier.


1991: Wayne Gretzky socks his 93rd postseason goal. A record that still stands today.


APRIL 11TH:

1975: Hank Aaron comes out of retirement as a Milwaukee Brewer, before retiring for good in 1976, and being inducted into the Hall of Fame 5 years later.



APRIL 12TH:

1917: Babe Ruth defeats the Yankees as a Red Sox, pitching a complete game, as the Bosox defeat the Bombers 10-3.


1970: Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle are inducted into “Monument Park” which serves as the Yankees home of plaques for franchise legends. It’s currently in Center Field at Yankee Stadium.
