Well, you can forget about a potential 10 game win-streak because it has ended at 7. JA Happ struggled once again, and the Yankees bats were cooled by Zach wheeler, with a late rally fallings short as the Phillies defeated the Yankees 11-7 in game 1 of a 7 game doubleheader Wednesday (8/5) at Citizens Ballpark in Philidelphia.
The Yankees,(Who were serving as the home team due to Tuesday’s postponement because of inclement weather), started the game on the right foot, as a double-play RBI in the 1st by Gleyber Torres, and a 2run bomb by Brett Gardner in the 2nd gave the Yankees a 3-0 lead. But JA Happ would struggle and get clipped by the HR ball yet again, as Bryce Harper took him deep for a 2run HR, before a barrage of walks and hits gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead after 3 innings of play.
Nick Nelson would relive Happ but couldn’t replicate the magic he had on Saturday, when he went 3 scoreless innings in his MLB debut against the Red Sox, as he gave up a solo shot to JT Realmunto in the 5th, before a 5 run 6th, which saw Harper and JT pick up an RBI each put the game out of reach, as the Phillies took a commanding 11-3 lead. Meanwhile, Zach Wheeler was able to keep the red-hot Yankees bats in check going 6 innings of 3 run ball with 2 strikeouts. The Yankees would make the contest interesting, by scoring 4 runs in the 7th, on an RBI single by Thairo Estrada and a 3run bomb by Aaron Judge. But, a Miguel Andujar flyout with 2 on and 2 out, eliminated any hopes of a comeback as the Yankees fell 11-7.
