PISTOL PETE NIGHT! ALONSO PUMMELES BRAVES AS METS AVOID SWEEP!

Well it turns out, the words of die-hard Mets fan Saul Ancona “ I’ll take 1 of 3” rung in the Mets ears on Thursday night (8/15) as Pete Alonso (Who had 6 RBIs tonight) Michael Conforto and Todd Frazier blasted HRs and Amed Rosario had 5 hits, while Marcus Stroman turned in a solid start as the Mets pummeled the Braves 10-8 to salvage the final Game of this series.

It got scary late as the Braves mashed several HRs to cut what was once a 10-4 deficit down to 10-8, but Edwin Diaz at long last came to the rescue and stopped the bleeding to ensure the Mets win.

The win moves the Mets to within two games in the NL Wild Card race.

MVP: Pete Alonso.

THOUGHTS:

As expected the Mets crushed Julio and took care of business tonight. Great job by Stroman as well turning in a quality start.

Now the Mets can move even closer in the Wild Card race by taking care of the lowly Kansas City Royals over the weekend KC.

STATS TO KNOW:

Pete Alonso tied the NL rookie record tonight by blasting his 39th HR of the season.

The Mets magic number to clinch a Playoff Spot is Down to 45. It will go down with a combination of a Mets win and a Cardinals/2nd NL WC team loss on the same night. One that number reaches 0, it will mean the Mets are headed to the playoffs!

Alonso and Rosario are the first Mets teammates to event have 5 hits in a game.

FAN OPINIONS:

Saul Ancona:

I’m as happy as can beeeeee! Tonight was really enjoyable to watch! Let’s keep it rolling against KCeeeee!!!
