It wasn’t easy but behind a 6 run 8th, the Mets were able to defeat the Royals 11-5 this weekend and take the series.
The win keeps the Mets within 2 games in the NL Wild Card race.
The Mets started this game with a bang as Michael Conforto blasted a 452FT moonshot into the seats for a 3run HR off Royals starter Glenn Sparkman in the 1st to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.
But the Royals would rally off Mets starter Zach Wheeler and before you knew it, they had taken a 4-3 lead.
But the Mets, who were playing for a lot more at stake then KC rallied in the 7th to break the game and the series open as JD Davis , Amed Rosario (2run single), Michael Conforto , Wilson Ramos and Pete Alonso (RBI Double) all came up with clutch hits (Mostly singles) that gave the Mets a 9-4 lead when the dust settled.
In the 9th, Pete Alonso went deep for his NL Rookie record -breaking 40th HR of the year, as the Mets rolled past the Royals 11-5 for a series win.

The Mets (64-60) are back! The hope is back! The confidence in this team is back with these last two games! Good vibes for this team heading into a big 3 game series against the red-hot Cleveland Indians (74-52) at Citi Field beginning on Tuesday.

STATS TO KNOW:
Pete Alonso now has 40HRs. That is the most by an NL Rookie in MLB history. The overall record is held by Aaron Judge who hit 52 in 2017.
Shoutout to my friend Eli Zirdock for pointing the following stat out.
The Royals are the only team in MLB history that can say that they gave up the rookie HR record -breaking HR to both the AL and NL record holders.
Judge and Alonso both broke their leagues rookie records against the Royals.
