The Red Sox bullpen shut down the Yankees bats and Domingo German had a “Rare off night” as Boston pounded the Yankees 6-1 in game one of a 4 game series at Fenway Park.
German was cruising through the 1st 3 innings before Boston got to him in the 4th as a Rafael Devers RBI double and a Mitch Moreland 3run HR gave the Bosox a 4-0 lead. German would get charged with one more run in the 5th when Xander Bogarts doubled home two off Nestor Cortes JR in the 5th.
As for the Yankees bats, they were shut down by the Red Sox bullpen as they only managed 1 run on 3 hits with the lone run being a Brett Gardner solo blast in the 5th that at the time cut the Bosox lead down to 4-1.
But the Yankees offense couldn’t muster anything else after that and fell 6-1.
MVP: Mitch Moreland
THOUGHTS:
Tough one, just get em Saturday.
JBJ WEB GEM:
Any hopes of a late rally were dashed in the 7th when a Jackie Bradley JR bullet nabbed Gary Sanchez at home plate to save a run and keep the momentum on Boston’s side.
UP NEXT:
The Yankees will look to even the series on Saturday (9/7) when they send JA Happ to the mound against the Boston bullpen.
Game time is 4:05 PM.
