The Islanders defensive stifling of the Rangers is a testament to who they are and who they’ve been the last few seasons. This dominant performance along with their hot play recently just proves that they’ll be around next season when everything is reset. As for the Rangers, hope they learned that you can’t win on talent alone, but rather you must play with precision and conviction if you want to win “low-event” games like these come playoff time. The level of execution and effort was down a few pegs here, but you can’t take any credit away from the NYI(Who went 4/4 on the PK) and Varlamov, who registered his fourth straight shutout at MSG. That’s also back 2 back wins in under 48 hours from him, which is mightily impressive considering his 42 save outburst earlier in the week as well. This disheartening NYR loss isn’t concerning for it’s one game, but it sure is upsetting after two sprinted wins on the road.
