RAY’D UP! YANKEES FALL IN G2, LOSE STANTON TO INJURY.

Micheal King struggled and the Yankees offense couldn’t replicate their game 1 outburst, as the Rays earned a split of the doubleheader with a 5-3 victory in Saturday at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Yankees prospect Micheal King served as the “opener” for NY, and struggled early, allowing an RBI walk to Yossi Tstugo in the 1st, to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. King would settle down for a bit, but allowed two more runs in the 4th, (That was sandwiched in between a Luke Voit RBI single), extending the Rays lead to 3-1 through 4 innings of play.

Albert Abreu would make his MLB debut in the 5th inning, but struggle and serve up a 2 run single to Kevin Smith, pushing the Tampa Bay lead to 5-1.

The Yankees would make a run at it late, as after being shut down for most of the game by Rays pitching, as DJ LeMahieu would drive in 2 runs with a 2 out single in the 7th, but a fly ball from Aaron Judge that died on the warning track, dashed any hopes of a Yankees rally, as the Rays secured a 5-3 victory.

INJURY REPORT:

After the game, the Yankees announced that Giancarlo Stanton had come down with a calf strain and is likely headed to the IL. We will have more on this on Sunday.

UP NEXT: The Yankees will look for a split of the 4 game series, when James Paxton toes the rubber against Rays ace Charlie Morton. Game time is 1:10PM
