RED IN THE FACE!! SCORCHING METS SWEEP REDS, NOW NO2 OVERALL IN MAJORS.

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

Francisco Lindor scored three runs, tying a franchise record by crossing the plate in 13 consecutive games, and the New York Mets breezed to their sixth straight win, 10-2 over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday and a series sweep.

Lindor finished 2 for 3 with a walk and a two-run single in the second inning that increased his RBI total to 82, matching Jose Reyes in 2006 for the most by a Mets shortstop.

Lindor reached the mark in his 111th game, 42 fewer than Reyes played in 2006.

Lindor walked and scored the Mets’ second run in the first. His single in the second made it 4-0. His run-scoring streak is the longest in the majors this season and matched David Wright (July 2008) for the longest in Mets history.

Trade-deadline addition Daniel Vogelbach drove in three runs, fellow July acquisition and former Red Tyler Naquin homered and Pete Alonso had three hits for the NL East-leading Mets.

Taijuan Walker (10-3, 3.43 ERA) pitched six solid innings to reach double-digit wins for the first time since he went 11-8 with a below average 4.56ERA for the Seattle Mariners in 2015. Walker allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts, which was a step up from his implosion last time out against the Braves where he gave up eight runs in less than two innings and wore it,ultimately taxing the bullpen for the duration of that five game series. Luckily, that 9-6 game two defeat was the last time the Mets have dropped a contest.

New York has the second-best record in the majors (73-39) and outscored Cincinnati 21-5 in the three-game sweep, as well as 36-10 overall in the 5-1 season series win.

The Mets have not trailed during their six-game spurt, winning every game by three runs or more.

T.J. Zeuch (0-1, 13.50ERA) lost his Reds debut, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Zeuch, who was a Reds fan by trade, is the 57th player to appear in a game for the Reds this season, tying the team record set in 2003.

The Reds(44-66) dropped to 41-44 since their putrid 3-22 start to the season. However, they will get a taste of baseball’s most magical corn when they battle the Chicago Cubs(45-65) at the “Field of Dreams” game in Iowa for its second installment. Last year’s inaugural contest between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox, . The MLB has said they won’t come back in 2023 due to construction being done on the 1989 movie site, but a future return is on the table. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said he realized during a 2016 visit to the Field of Dreams site how spectacular it would be to play a game there.

The MLB and Go The Distance, the owners and operators of the movie site, have been working together on the Iowa game for years. In 2019, MLB announced the Yankees and White Sox., would faceoff in 2020. The Yankees were later replaced by the St Louis Cardinals but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, it never happened. However, in November 2020, MLB announced that the game would be played in 2021, and it lived up to its billing with the Yankees rallying from a 7-4 deficit down to their final out in the top of the ninth inning for an 8-7 lead on homers from Aaron Judge(his second of the game) and Giancarlo Stanton. But two batters into the bottom half, Tim Anderson sent everyone home with a wall off bomb into the Cornfield.

The two teams will have Friday off before resuming the series in Cincinnati on Saturday and a Sunday.

As for the Mets, they have an off day on Friday before the arch rival Phillies(62-49) who’ve won seven straight and 10 of their last 11, to town for a weekend three game set.
