REVENGE IS SWEET! YANKEES ELIMINATE BOSOX WITH BLOWOUT WIN.

Updated: Oct 16, 2019

One thing the Yankees have been consistent in this season is keeping their momentum going and finishing games with it and they kept that going against their hated rivals the, Boston Red Sox. The Yankees eliminated them from AL East contention on Monday (9/9) and became the 1st team this season to shut them out at Fenway Park, by defeating the Red Sox 5-0 to lower their magic number to 9 enabling them to clinch the AL East.

It was a pitchers’ duel early on between James Paxton of the Yankees and Eduardo Rodriguez of the Red Sox.

In the 5th inning, the Yankees “drew 1st blood”, as Austin Romine went deep to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead.

Then in the 7th, Gio Urshela gave the Yankees some much-needed Insurance in what was his 1st game starting, since coming off the IL on Sunday as he cracked a HR to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. The Yankees didn’t stop there as later in the inning, DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge racked up RBI singles that pushed the Yankees lead to 4-0.

In the 9th, Luke Voit busted out of his slump with an RBI single of his own that extend the Yankees advantage to 5-0.

While the Yankees were putting up runs on the board, James Paxton was keeping the Red Sox bats in check as he went 6.2 scoreless innings with 7Ks keeping the Yankees in front and notching his 8th straight win as Cory Gearrin and Tyler Lones locked down the final 2.1 frames sealing a 5-0 Yankees victory that eliminated Boston from playoff contention.

MVP: James Paxton

THOUGHTS:

Bye-bye Boston! Man I love revenge as we eliminate them one year after they eliminated us. Great job by the “Big Maple” And Romine, Urshela, Judge and DJ.

Nice series win as we take 3of 4 here, nice season series win as we take 14 of 19 and a nice high-water mark of 45 games over .500 for the first time in a decade.

Let’s keep these good vibes rolling in Detroit. Let’s go Yankees!

UP NEXT:

The Yankees (95-50) will head to Detroit to begin a 3 game series on Monday (9/10) against the Tigers (42-100).

It will be the Yankees bullpen against veteran Edwin Jackson of Detroit.

Game time is 6:40 PM.
