NEWS AND NOTES:

AL EAST CHAMPS!

With a 9-1 win over the Angels at Yankee Stadium on September 19th, the Yankees clinched the AL East for the first time since 2012. Then a few days later, the Yankees wrapped up the second seed in the AL with an 8-3 win over the Blue Jays to close out the home portion of the regular season.

GERMAN, TAUCHMAN OUT FOR SEASON:

Mike Tauchman is out for the season with a left calf injury that he pulled in the 10-5 win over Boston on September 8th. As for German, he was charged for Domestic Violence and the MLB has suspended him for at least the rest of the 2019 season.

STANTON, SEVY RETURN:

Luis Severino came back with a bang as he went 4 scoreless innings in the Yankees 8-0 win over the Angles on September 17th. As for Giancarlo, he cane back the next night and smashed his 1st HR since coming back in Texas on September 27th during a 14-7 Yankees win. Both will be active for the ALDS.

Regular season MVP: DJ

METS: 86-76

Props to the Mets on a great season. They improve by 9 wins and although they fell short of the front offices expectation of 92 wins and a playoff berth (Losing out of the WC by 3 games), they still exceeded a few others expectations and that was good to see. Also the way they ended the season with a walk off 3run HR from Dominic Smith was amazing.

Alonso was insane this year as he broke the rookie HR record with 53 bombs and Degrom rode his 2.43ERA to his second straight CY Young Award.

Yes there were bad moments too, as the Mets could never get over the hump in the WC race and had a awful bullpen comeback to haunt them time and time again as Edwin Diaz (Who gave up a record 15HR in the 9th inning this year) didn’t pan out like the Mets thought he would when they made that blockbuster trade with the Mariners last offseason.

That and the Marcus Stroman Trade which also didn’t pan out too well down the stretch, has put the Mets in an uncertain position now as Zack Wheeler is an FA, Steven Matz is a question mark and Noah Syndegard is once again on the trade block in what could be a franchise-changing deal.

On top of that, the Mets must look for bullpen help or package Diaz in a trade because besides Lugo and Wilson, I felt that everyone else was inconsistent this year.

So with that, I put the Mets in the “OK” Colum in terms of How did there season go?

UPDATE: Mets Fire Mickey Calaway.

Here’s another problem! Honestly, I saw this coming as he made a lot of controversial decisions and personally, I felt that manegment , the media and the fans never liked him. It’s going to be tough for the Mets to find a manger with 7 other teams ( Padres, Phillies, Angles, Cubs, Royals, Giants and Pirates) also on the lookout for one and especially since the Angles seem to have found there man in Joe Maddon and the Cubs in Joe Girardi. Personally, I think Joe would be a great fit for the Mets but it seems really unlikely. They will have to find someone that has experience and can keep the players “Even-Kneeled” throughout the long season.

Buck Showalter maybe? Either way it will be tough as we will now see what BVW( Brodie Van -Wagen) is made of.
