Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres went deep, while the Yankees bullpen once again stepped up, as the Yankees improved to 18-0-3 in their last 21 home series by taking this rubber game from the Texas Rangers 4-1 on Wednesday(9/4) at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, NY.
The win lowers the Yankees magic number to clinch the AL East down to 12.
Former Yankee Lance Lynn started for Texas and the Yankees were able to get to him just enough to get the win, as Aaron Judge started the HR party in the 3rd as his 2run Oppo-taco to right gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead.
Then in the 5th, Gleyber Torres stayed hot as he went deep for a solo shot that put the Bombers up 3-0.
After Lynn departed going 5 innings of 3 run ball, the Yankees were able to scratch a run off of the Texas bullpen when Austin Romine doubled home Mike Tauchman to extend the Yankees lead to 4-0.
As for the Yankees pitching, Chad Green (2 scoreless), Luis Cessa (3 scoreless) Adam Ottavino (1 scoreless), Zack Brittion (1 scoreless) and Cory Gearrin (1 inning ) all kept the Rangers offense at bay in this one.
The lone run Texas put on the board was a solo shot by Rougned Odor in the 9th.
The Yankees pitching was also backed by the right arm of Aaron Judge as his “On the money” throw to second robbed Roberto Gauzman of a double.
MVP: Aaron Judge
