In a game that the Thunder called, a “Must win game”, YDE went out to the Hawks Nest And demolished the HAFTR Hawks 11-3 on a chilly Wednesday night (12/4), in Five Towns, NY to complete the season series sweep.
Just like 10 days prior in their rivalry clash against MDY, the Thunder started slow and gave up a goal not even 2 minutes in, as some miscommunication on defense led to a Hawks goal and a 1-0 lead. But YDE would wake up once again, as they would put some pressure and breakthrough with avenges, when Bobby Tawil and Sammy Cohen tapped home two quick goals that gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.
YDE would keep the momentum going, as Bobby Tawil hit up Ikey Dweck for a tally before Cohen and Tawil registered goals of their own to give the Thunder a commanding 5-1 lead after the 1st period and silence the Hawks faithful hoping for an upset.
The Thunder kept up the good vibes in the 2nd period, as Bobby Tawil socked one in to complete his hat trick and extend the YDE lead to 6-1. After a HAFTR goal, Joseph Dweck would send home his first-ever tally as a member of the Thunder to give them a 7-2 advantage, before Sammy Cohen would register his elusive hat trick late in the frame to ballon the YDE lead to 8-2 after 24 minutes of play.
The visitors also saw some great play from their goaltender Eddie Khezrie, ho had a nice bounce-back performance after a forgetful one at SAR 16 days ago.
Smelling blood, YDE salted the game away just minutes into the 3rd and final period, as Sammy Franco kept his goal-scoring streak alive with a bullet past the Hawks goaltender, before Brooklyn Bisons native Jack Harary, netted a goal of his own with a “Baruch Hashem” cry after it to extend the guests lead to 10-2.
The teams would exchange “Garbage time goals” with Jack Dushey getting the mark for the Thunder, as YDE wrapped up an 11-3 win to improve to 4-1 on the season.
