Revenge is so sweet, isn't it? well, that's what the Yankees did on Friday night, (8/31), as they flipped the script on the Detroit Tigers, with a 7-5 victory!
The Yankees didn't get off to a good start, as Jordan Zimmerman( A Yankees slayer), was taking them to school, while the Yankees "Ace", Luis Severino, struggled again.
However, the HR ball, came to the rescue and saved the Yankees.
I was really concerned, when I saw it was Zimmerman vs Severino,as Jordan is a Yankees slayer, while Luis had been kind of up and down lately .
For a majority of this game, the tale of the tape, told the actual tale, as the Tigers pounced on Severino, with a Goodrum solo HR in the 4th, and a two-run triple, by Jim Adduci in the 5th.
So with that, the Yankees found themselves down, 3-0, and being no-hit by Jordan Zimmerman, as the game headed into the bottom of the 5th.
Sometimes mangers tend lose there temper, meaning even Yankees manager Aaron Boone, can be ejected, and he was, as Boone was thrown out, after arguing balls, and strikes.
Boone was so frustrated , that he went nose to nose, with the umpire, and even crouched behind the plate, to show the umpire the strike zone!
That seemed to energize the Yankees, and their fans, as they broke up Jordan's no-hit bid in the 5th, as Brett Gardner went deep for a 2 runHR to cut the Yankees deficit to 3-2. Then later in the inning, Aaron Hicks, and Miguel Andujar, went back to back, and all of a sudden the Yankees had a 4-3 lead!
The Tigers would however not be fazed, and retook the lead, as Mike Mahtook, would notch an RBI single in the 7th, before Ronny Rodriguez, would put the team from Michigan ahead, with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-4 Tigers.
The Yankees would not give up they staged another big inning in the bottom of the 8th.
In my opinion, it all really started to materialize, with runners on first and second and 2 outs. Luke Voit checked his swing on a full count to draw a walk, and load the bases!
But however, Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire didn't agree and he came out to argue and got ejected from the game. Meanwhile, replays clearly showed that Voit went around, and did not check his swing, but the umpires said otherwise.
When you have opportunities, you need to capitalize on them, and that's what Gleyber Torres did, as with the bases loaded, Gleyber lined a 2run single to left field, to give the Yankees a 6-5 lead!
That lead would expand, when Austin Romine reached on an infield single, to score a run, and give the Yankees a 7-5 lead! In the 9th, David Robertson stranded the tying runs on base, as the Yankees were able to hang on, and win a topsy-turvy game 7-5!
HERO: AARAON BOONE, ZERO: JOE JIMINEZ, UNSUNG HERO: GLEYBER TORRES
