Another Yankee win, another guy who you have never heard of before stepping up and another HR record being broken.
Mike Ford blasted a go-ahead HR in the 8th and Mike Tauchman blasted two clutch homers as well, propelling the Yankees to a 9-6 win on a record-setting Monday night( 8/5) in Baltimore.
The win is the Yankees 6th straight and it lowers their magic number to clinch the AL East crown to 41.
The Yankees came hot out of the gates off O’s starter Gabriel Ynoa, as Austin Romine went deep in the second to give the Yankees an early 1-0 lead.
But the Orioles would respond in the 3rd off Masahiro Tanaka, as Trey Mancini delivered an RBI single ( Before getting thrown out at home later in the inning on a beautiful throw by Didi Gregorious) to tie the game at 1.
In the top of the 5th, Rookie Bryveic Valera stayed hot, as he ripped a 2run triple down the right field line, before scoring moments later on a throwing error by O’s shortstop Jonathan Villar to give the Yankees a 4-1 lead. In the 6th, the Yankees made HR history, as Brett Gardner went deep for his 1st oppo-taco HR of his career, before Mike Tauchman went deep for history , as that HR was not only his 1st career road HR, but it was also the 30th HR the Yankees have hit at Camden Yards this season! The most by a visiting team in a single ballpark, in a single season in MLB history!
Now up 6-1 with Tanaka on the mound, the Yankees seemed to have this game wrapped up. But the O’s had other plans, as they got to Masa in the 6th, and tagged him for 4 runs, one of them being on the game-tying 2runHR that Yankee-Killer Jonothan Villar hit off Tommy Kahlene to not only put himself a single shy of the cycle, but most importantly to tie the game at 6.
Now a regular team with as many men down as the Yankees night have packed it in right then, but not this team, because as Mike Tauchman said “We just kept going man, we just kept going “ .
Indeed they did, as after Adam Ottavino worked a scoreless 7th for the Yankees to keep the game tied, the Yankees bats went right back to work, as in the top of the 8th, Mike Ford went deep to give the Yankees the lead, before a few batters later, Mike Tauchman cemented his presence on this game by going deep once again for a 2run HR that gave the Yankees breathing room as they took a 9-6 lead.
That proved to be enough, as Zack Brittion and Aroldis Chapman pitched scoreless 8ths and 9ths, (Even though Aroldis allowed a 2-out single to Villar to complete the cycle) that clinched the Yankees 6th straight victory 9-6.
MVP: Mike Tauchman
LEFTOVERS:
Aaron Judge made another Web Gem, as with his team up 4-1 in the 5th, with a runner on 3rd and 2 outs, Judge dove out to rob Anthony Santander of an RBI.
STATS TO KNOW:
