JA Happ has been on the Yankees radar for sometime now, as it was evident on Friday night with Sonny Gray, that the Yankees need some better starting pitching, and the Blue Jays ace was on the Yankees radar.
But any hopes that Happ had of going to a wining situation in the bronx, was dashed on Saturday(7/8)
when the Yankees pummeled Haps early and often , as the Yankees knotted up this series with the Blue Jays with an 8-5 win to knot up this 3 game weekend set at Rogers centre. Brett Gardner, and Aaron Judge both homered to lead off the game, and that set the tone for yet another Yankees victory. In this win, the yankees bailed out their ace, Luis Severino who had a rare bad outing.
In the blink of an eye , you knew that this was going to be all Yankees , as on the first pitch of the game , Brett Gardner unleashed a HR to center field, to make it 1-0 Yankees! Then, the next batter Aaron Judge launched one to center field to make it 2-0 Yankees, a few batters later, and a Brandon Drury 2 run double made 4-0 Yankees before the Blue Jays even got a chance to hit in this game.
However , this wasn't all pie for the Yankees,as Kevin Pillar went deep for a 2runHR , in the bottom of the second, and just like that it was a 4-2 game. But one of the great thing about the Yankees offense , is that they respond to things like this, as Brett Gardner continued his torrid day, with a 2 run triple in the top of the 3rd to make it 6-2 Bomers. Gardner would come into score later that inning on a wild pitch which upped the Yankees lead to 7-2.
The Blue Jays would get to Severino once again ,as Randal Grichuck launched a Hr to left field to cut the yankees lead to 7-3. That would be all for Luis Severino,as he went 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits ( 2 homers).
A sac fly by Kevin Pillar in the 6th, made it a 7-4 game, but only for the Yankees to respond in the 9th , as Didi Gregarious singled to left, which plated Miguel Andujar , before an Aledmys Diaz Hr made the final score 8-5 Yankees!
