THANK YOU YANKEES.

Dear Yankees,

I just want to say thank you for a season of discovery. This season, we discovered that despite setting a record for injuries, we can still put up 103 victory’s and for now, an AL East title. We discovered how great of a management we have to get those players, develop them and make them into stars that New York fell in love with. We also discovered that we can change the sports world. I hope you guys realized how much everyone not only in baseball, but around the world fed off of your “Next Man up” mentality. We discovered that we have the best bullpen in baseball, and though shaky at times, it did come through when we really needed them to. We also realized what an amazing manger we have, as his “Savages” rant set off a new rallying cry that lasted us through the rest of our roller-coaster 2019 campaign .

We also saw how much of a personality this team has, as younger fans became interested in you guys because they could relate to the players personally through what they did on and off the field. The way you never quit no matter what came your way and did it with class created a new part of the fanbase called the “Bronx Savages” which has become a big reason why this year felt different then all the other years, including the 27 times we have been called “Champions”.

When playoff time came, it all came together in the ALDS against the Twins. The fans, the players personality and will guided them to a first round sweep that had us believing that this year would be the year we take home title number 28 and finally win a championship this decade.

Then the Astros came along, and

although we won the first game in Houston, we dropped the next 3 and fell into a 3-1 hole. Everyone thought we were done, but that was just the beginning. We bested CY Young award winner Justin Verlander in Game 5 and our most unlikely of hero’s James Paxton came through to force game 6 in Houston. In that game, we had everything thrown at us and more, a 3run HR to start the game and even though we fought back after that, legendary defensive plays by Houston kept us down and on the cusp of being out. But even then, we didn’t give up as we faced the hottest closer in baseball in Roberto Osuna and with our season hanging by the smallest of threads, we rose up once again with a 2run HR to tie it.

Unfortunately though, Jose Altuvie ended our season with a 2run blast of his own in the bottom of the 9th to give Houston a 6-4 win. But that still doesn’t define us, we are a group that doesn’t give up despite everything and everyone telling us too. This hurts extremely bad right now and it will take some time to digest. As I’m writing this, I don’t think it has hit me what just happened, but I know from the ashes of this, we will rise with more determination and motivation to get better and stronger for 2020.

It’s frustrating yes, we haven’t won a World Series since 2009 which is 10 long years, but if there is one thing I have discovered this season, it’s that we have the most resilient team in baseball and will stop at nothing until we get that World Series trophy that we covet and deserve . To the Yankees universe, it’s been an amazing ride and I can’t wait for next year. These last few years, we’ve been getting better and better and with 2020 on the horizon, I can’t wait to see what these guys will accomplish. If you think this year was fun, wait until next year when we will carry the wait of that blast on our shoulders. Thank you Yankees, Next man up forever!

Sincerely, Marvin Azrak.
