THAT W FEELING: YANKEES TROUNCE M’S, SNAP SKID

Aaron Judge socked his 44th homer in the ninth, Josh Donaldson went deep and drove in three runs, and the Yankees snapped their five-game skid by besting the Seattle Mariners 9-4 down at the west Coast on Monday night.

Donaldson and Andrew Benentendi, 3RBIs, doubled twice each as the Yankees hammered Seattle pitcher Logan Gilbert for the second time in less than a week, expounding on the six they tagged him for in the Bronx, with seven at his natural habitat. It was the first time in 23 starts this season that Gilbert (10-5, 3.47ERA) failed to pitch at least five innings.

Grievously , the Bombers poignat RF Matt Carpenter fractured his left foot when he fouled off a pitch in the first inning, and is down 6-8 weeks. Carpenter began the night hitting .307 with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs in just 127 at-bats.

While that pop wont suffice long-term matters with Giancarlo Stanton and newly acquired Harrison Bader currently on the IL, the Yankees had plenty of punch on this night to lessen the blow.

The one to stop the bleeding that was this streak was Jamison Tallion (11-2, 3.95ERA) who scattered three hits over seven sturdy innings, most importantly saving the bullpen. Jamison served up solo home runs to Mitch Haniger in the first and Cal Raleigh in the seventh, but otherwise limited the potent Seattle offense. .J.P. Crawford worked an 11-pitch, bases-loaded walk in the fourth to plate a run, and Raleigh followed with a long fly ball that had home run distance but was pulled slightly foul, before grounding out to strand his teammates on the bags.

Otherwise, Taillon was sharp and and won his first decision since going six innings of one run ball in a 14-1 victory against Boston on July 16th.

New York manager Aaron Boone held a team meeting ahead of the series opener after the Yankees were swept in St. Louis last weekend. His message was mostly a reminder the Bronx Bombers are arguably the most talented team in the American League and following the trade deadline have the pieces for a title run if they go out there and prove it.

Donaldson had a two-run single in his first at-bat, launched his 11th home run with two outs in the third and hit the first of three consecutive doubles in the fifth that ended Gilbert’s night.

Benintendi’s two-out double in the third inning scored Gleyber Torres, and his double over the head of left fielder Jesse Winker in the fifth scored two and was the final batter for Gilbert, as New York went up 7-2 and wouldn’t relinquish that advantage.
