THATS OUR DJ! LEMAHIEU’S BLAST PROPELS YANKEES TO 1ST WIN OVER A’S IN 2019.

DJ LeMahieu socked a Walk off HR in the 11th to send the fans home happy as the Yankees defeated the A’s for the first time in 2019 4-3 in a thriller at Yankee Stadium on Saturday (8/31) in the Bronx.

The Yankees got the HR party started early in this one as Gary Sanchez went deep in the 1st off Yankee-killer Homer Bailey that gave the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. Bailey would settle down and only give up one more run over 5.2 innings of work(9Ks) which was also a Gary Sanchez solo shot, as that HR in the 5th tied the game 2 after Yankees starter Domingo German served up a 2runHR to Matt Olson in the top of the 5th which was Domingos only real blemish In 5 innings of work.

With both starters having departed, it became a “Battle of the Bullpens” as the Yankees sent Jonathan Losiga to the mound in the 6th, who somehow worked out of a bases loaded one out jam without allowing a run keeping the game tied at 2.

In the 7th, the A’s threatened again and scored as Matt Chapman lined a go-ahead RBI double ( That went foul but was never reviewed) off Adam Ottavino that gave Oakland a 3-2 lead that stunned the Yankee crowd since that RBI was the first run Adam had given up in eight appearances and the second since July 2nd.

Down 3-2 with 2 outs in the 8th, Aaron Judge came to the rescue as he walloped a game-tying HR to right that sent the Yankee Stadium crowd into a frenzy and tied this contest at 3 sending the game to extras.

In the 10th, Judge was at it again but this time on defense as he robbed a potential go-ahead Matt Chapman HR at the right field wall in the 10th that kept the game tied and set the stage for the Yankees walk off hero in the 11th in DJ LeMahieu, who swung at the 1st pitch he saw from A’s reliver Lou Trivino and crushed hit for his 1st, last and biggest hit of the day as the hall sailed into the right field seats giving the Yankees a thrilling 4-3 win.

MVP: DJ LeMahieu

THOUGHTS:

That’s our DJ!!! What a win!!! Judge saves us on both sides of the ball, El Kracken is back from his slump, Lasanaga was amazing today and the bullpen picked up a nice Domingo Day start leading us to victory!

Finally, we have beaten the A’s in 2019! Let’s win the series on Sunday!!

STATS TO KNOW:

The Yankees are now 7-2 in extra inning games this year. They also went 21-9 in August this year as well for the first time since 2009.

The Yankees end August with 74HRs. That is the most by a single team in a single month is MLB history.

That Judge HR was the 7th of his career that has either tied the game or given the Yankees the lead.

MOOSE DAY:

The Yankees honored HOFer Mike “Moose” Musina before the game. His plaque was on display in Monument Park on Saturday.
