THE LEGEND OF VICTOR! CARANTINI DOOMS METS AS RED-HOT CUBS COMPLETE SWEEP.

Victor Carantini came out of nowhere and John Lester out pitched Jacob Degrom as the Cubs finished off a sweep of the Mets 4-1 tonight at Citi Field in Flushing,NY.

The loss drops the Mets to 5 game back in the NL WC.

The Mets came into this contest riding a 5 game losing streak and who better to give them life then JD Davis, who crushed a solo shot over the Apple in Center Field to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead in the 1st.

But that’s all the Mets would get tonight, as John Lester would silence them as he went 6 innings of 1 run ball keeping a Mets offense that has only scored 16 runs over their last 62 innings at bay.

As for the Mets pitchers, Jacob Degrom was bitten by “The Legend of Victor” as rookie Victor Carantini hit a solo HR off him in the 3rd before clobbering a go-ahead 3run bomb off Degrom in the 7th that gave the Cubs a 4-1 lead. Take away the HRs and Degrom was brilliant tonight going 7 innings with 7Ks.

In the bottom of the 9th, Cubs Closer Craig Kimbrel worked a clean inning to seal the deal and complete the sweep dashing the Mets playoff hopes.

MVP: Victor

THOUGHTS:

Victor who? Wow! Tip of the cap to him that was incredible! Tip of the cap to the Cubs as this was a big series sweep for them. They defeated Stroman, Syndergaard and Degrom. Wow!

As for the Mets, they seriously have to wake up. They are putting themselves further and further away from the NL WC contenders. Wake up against the Phillies boys!

UP NEXT:

It doesn’t get any easier for the Mets (67-66) as they travel to Philadelphia for a big weekend series against the Phillies (69-63). Zach Wheeler will go for the Mets against Phillies ace and Mets killer Aaron Nola.

Game time is 7:05PM
