Welcome to “The Marvzone stove”, a new series where you will be treated almost daily at 7:00 on weekdays to a quick rundown on the latest news and rumors in sports. Let’s hop right in for today’s news!
AUTHORS NOTE: This segment will really take off next week and as for today, must be done early because of the upcoming Shavuot holiday.
NHL: Superstar Jack Eichel wants out of a “Losing environment” in Buffalo, saying it has been a frustrating 5 year with the Sabers. Jack is a free agent after next season and don’t be suprised if he becomes a hot topic at the trade deadline in 2021.
Also in the news, mini training camps won’t start up until July 10th, pushing the start of the playoffs to mid-August.
NBA: The league is considering a 20 team playoff format in Orlando, that will feature 12 Western teams and 8 Eastern teams, with the Suns, Kings, Blazers and Pelicans all fighting it out for the right to battle the Grizzlies for the final spot in the Western Conference playoffs. The reason for this is because, their are more teams on the bubble in the West, as a opposed to none in the East.
MLB: The players continue to refuse to budge from their “All or nothing” demand on full prorated salaries, and the owners have had none of it lowering their offer from their maximum 50% of prorated cash, to around 30%. In turn, the players have asked for 110 games, as opposed to 82 with 50% pay as first proposed by the owners, and full prorated salaries. The MLPA says that they agreed to this in March, and while that is true, lots of things have changed since that first agreement on March 26th, such as a whole season with no fans.
NFL: Talks have began between Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on an extension.
RUNNING: Boston Marothon cancelled for first time in it’s 124 year history.
