THE MARVZONE STOVE” (6/1/20), MLB, MLBPA NEGOTIATIONS ONGOING, DEVILS LOTTERY FATE, AND MORE!

Welcome back to “The Marvzone Stove”, where on weekdays at 7:00PM ET, we give you a rundown on the latest sports news and rumors. Without further ado, let’s get into today’s scoops.

The MLBA countered with a seasonal proposal to theMLB owners that included

  • 114 game season from June 30th-October 1st

  • 14 team playoff format in 2020 and 2021

  • Players can opt out of playing his year if they wish(“High-risk” players, meaning players that can’t play due to medical issues, will still be getting paid full salary)

  • If only the 2020 postseason gets canceled, players give teams the option to include postseason incentives over the next 2 years, with it only applying to contracts that would receive $10million or more year-round.

•players want full prorated salaries

While the MLB owners are likely to reject this proposal, one can argue it could qualify as a starting point because the players are now willing to come forth and give up incentive money. While it’s not a significant amount, it could entice some owners (And just maybe even the ones who want the season to be canceled to save revenue), to consider giving in themselves and finding a way to raise their own offer from an 85% pay cut on prorated salaries to much less than that , so the players could maybe give up a bit more and you can start finding middle ground. Nevertheless, the ball is in the owners court, since the players want Spring Training on June 10th, meaning that a final agreement between the two sides much be reached this week.

DEVILS LOTTERY FATE HINGES ON PLAY-IN ROUND RESULTS:

Aside from their own lottery pick (6th), the Devils have potentially two other picks in the first round of this year’s 2020 draft.

•ARIZONA FALLS TO NASHVILLE:

If the Coyotes fall to the Predators in the best-of -5 play-in round and not be selected in one of the three upcoming lotteries on June 26th, the Devils would receive Arizona’s first round pick. The only way the Coyotes can benefit here, is if they win their play-in round series and keep moving on, lowering the pick for New Jersey. Should the Coyotes fall in the top 3 after all, the Devils would notch next years unprotected first round pick from the Coyotes.

Meanwhile, if Arizona retains Taylor Hall (Who the Devils traded away for that pick), the Coyotes 2021 3rd round pick from New Jersey, would turn into a first-rounder.

CANUCKS DEFAT WILD:

Should the Vancouver Canucks fend off the Minnesota Wild in the play-in round, the Devils would recive next years unprotected 2021 pick from them. If the Wild upset Vancouver, the Devils would get this season’s lottery pick from the Canucks.

RANGERS LET GROSS WALK:

In a move that many fans expected, the Rangers will not bring back prospect Nick Gross. The team had until 5:00PM ET today to retain him and didn’t do that most likely due to their blue-line already being stacked with guys like Panarin and Zibanejad. Another reason could be the Rangers farm system is loaded with guys at this position that we have yet to see blossom. Nico will now become an unrestricted free agent.

UPDATE: MLB FIRES BACK!

The MLB owners have countered with a proposal, that includes full prorated salaries to players and a 60 game season. While this isn’t a final agreement, now the question is “Can they agree on games?” As opposed to money. The needle for an agreement has moved rapidly over the past 24 hours, and as a baseball community, hope it keeps on going upward.
