The YDE Varsity Basketball Thunder wiped away any concerns about the state of the team in there preseason game against JEC, by defeating the Flatbush Falcons 53-37 on Thursday night (10/31) in front of a raucous Falcons nest in Brooklyn,NY to start the regular season on the right foot.
The contest was tight in the first half with both teams never being able to gain an edge over one another, though Joey Mizrahi kept the Thunder in the contest with 17 first half points, as YDE took a slim lead into the break and maintained it throughout the 3rd quarter and into the 4th.
But it was in the final frame that YDE finally played to there true potential, as Eliyahu Cohen carried a late 3rd quarter surge into the 4th by pushing the Thunder lead to double-digits, which had Thunder nation rocking. This run, was due in large part to the YDE defense as Maurice Mizrahi and Ray Betesh shut down the aggressive Falcons attack, allowing the offense to do its thing.
When the final buzzer had sounded, YDE were 16 point winners at 53-37 and left the Falcons nest, with Flatbush not even knowing what hit them.
