With their season realistically hanging in the balance , the YDE Thunder Hockey team stunned the hockey world , and picked up there first win of the season with a thrilling 1-0 win over the top dogs in the East , the North Shore Stars on “ Sunday night Hockey” , in front of a packed house at the Thunder dome !
Coming into this game , YDE knew that they needed to play 36 minutes of good hockey in order to have a chance against this tall order that was North Shore .
In the first period, the tone of the game was set, as both defenses and both goaltenders stood tall. The first period ended with the score gridlocked at 0, and some confidence for the Thunder heading to the locker room.
The second period, started with the Stars coming out flying, but try as they might they couldn’t get the puck by YDE goaltender Charles Sultan , who was able to channel his inner Henrick Lunquist, and keep Charles Greszes and the Stars at bay.
In games like these , one goal can really have a lot of weight , and that’s what happened , as Sammy Franco wound up a shot from full court that took a fortitudes bounce ,and went five hole on the North Shore goalie to give YDE a 1-0 lead.
After that , North Shore doubled , then tripled up the pressure,but Steven Shemuala , Ikey Dweck , Charles Sultan , and the YDE crowd somehow someway , pulled through and kept the high powered Stars offense at bay ,and kept their playoff hopes alive by shocking, and stunning the North Shore Stars , and the rest of the Eastern conference 1-0!!!
