Well that was completely unexpected but you know the Yankees are taking that! Didi Gregorious led the charge with a2HR, 5RBI night, while James Paxton turned in his best road start of the season as the Yankees mashed 5HRs and cruised to a 10-2 thrashing of the Dodgers on Friday night (8/23) in Dodger Stadium.
The win is a statement for this 3 game series between the two best teams in baseball record-wise.
The Yankees started this game with a bang off of potential CY Young winner Hyun-Jin Ryu as Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez went deep in the 3rd to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Then, up 2-1 in the 5th, Didi Gregorious belted a Grand Slam to right that blew the game open and gave the Yankees a 6-1 lead.
They would continue to pour it on, as Brett Gardner doubled home Gio Urshela later in the 5th, before Gleyber Torres went deep in the 6th to give the Yankees a commanding 8-1 lead.
In the 8th, Aaron Judge added to his great night with an RBI single before Didi launched another blast into the seats in the 9th to give the Yankees a 10 spot on the night.
As for James Paxton, he was phenomenal, as he racked up 11Ks in 6.1 innings of work. The 2 runs he gave up came on a single by AJ Pollock in the 4th and a double by Enrique Hernandez in the 7th.
Nestor Cortez would work 2 scoreless innings in relief of Paxton to seal a big 10-2 Yankees victory.
