US OPEN DAY 8 RECAP: OSAKA, ZEREV OUSTED AND MORE!

It was a big day at the US Open so let’s get into it!

OSAKA OUSTED:

Less then 24 hours after the men’s no 1 seed Novak Djokovic went down, the women’s no 1 did the same as Naomi Osaka was ousted by the 13 seeded Belinda Bencic 6-4,7-5 on Monday. The loss comes as a shock to the tennis community as Osaka was an absolute high coming off a phenomenal performance on Saturday when she defeated Coco Gauff 6-3,6-0.

This opens the door for Serena Williams to notch grand slam number 24 and tie Margret Court for the all-time Grand Slam record.

ZEREV GONE:

All hope for an all-Spain clash between Rafael Nadal and Alexander Zerev were dashed on Monday when the 20 seeded Diego Schwartzman took out the 6 seeded Zerev 3-6, 6-2,6-4,6-3.

RAFA DAZZLES CROWD, DEFEATS CILIC

Nadal pulled off some “Out of this world shots!” And defeated Marian Cilic 6-3,3-6, 6-1,6-2. Up next for Rafa is Diego Schwartzman.

QUATERFINAL MATCHUPS:

Stan Wawrinka (23) vs Daniel Medvedev (5)

Federer (3) vs Grigor Dimitrov (Unranked)

Mason Berrettini (24) vs Gael Monfils (13)

Diego Schwartzman (20) vs Rafael Nadal (2)

Who makes the last 4? We will see.
