WEEKEND PREVIEW: 3/12-3/14

he NBA has returned for the second half of the season, the Rangers continue to sink into the mediocrity pool, the Islanders have continued their winning ways, and the 2021 Mens NCAA basketball tournament is set to kick off in the coming days, all in a fun-filled edition of this weekends sports preview:

KNICKS:19-19

Can’t say I’m upset, because I saw this coming. The Knicks, still without Derrick Rose, began the second half of the season on Thursday night, with a 134-101 road loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, and liked as overmatched, and overpowered as you would expect, for a supposedly rebuilding team, against a league powerhouse.

Up next, the lowly Oklahoma City Thunder (16-22) on Saturday, in OKC.

NETS: 25-13

The Kevin Durant-less Nets didn’t miss a beat, as they came out of the all-star break, and took care of the Boston Celtics 121-109, behind a 40 point outing from Kyrie Irving. The win is Brooklyn’s 11th in their last 12 games, as they maintain pace with the 76ers, only .5 game out for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Over the weekend, the Nets will see the Detroit Pistons.

RANGERS: 10-12-3

This team really needs a jolt, like an Artemi Panarin, because they have recently looked lifeless. That 5-1 debacle against the Pens, was followed by a heartbreaking 4-2 one, where the Blueshirts had numerous chances, throughout the entire third period, but just couldn’t put the puck past Tristan Jarry, and even the score. The only shot the Rangers allowed in the third period, was the empty better with 30 seconds left, that iced the game, and clinched the season-series for the Penguins, who now lead it 5-1. On Thursday, it wasn’t much better,-: the Rangers got demolished 4-0 in Boston, against the Bruins, where Alexander Georgiev’s struggles continued, and he will ride the bench for Saturday’s matinee game at TD Garden, while Keith Kinkaid will get the start for NY.

ISLANDERS: 18-6-4

The winning streak has reached eight games. The Islanders are rolling, as they continue to hang onto first place, in the Eastern division. On Tuesday, they shockingly improved to 4-0 against the Bruins, with a 2-1 shootout victory, before a 5-3 win over the slumping Devils, despite losing captain Andres Lee to an ACL tear. The Islanders will meet the Devils in New Jersey again on Saturday.
