WEEKLY RECAP: YANKEES WIN BATTLE , BUT LOSE WAR . BEER BARADGE IN CLEVELAND, AND MORE!

It was an intense third week of September, around the world of sports.

The Yankees won the battle against the Red Sox but lost the war, the Cleveland Browns finally won a game (against guess who? ) on Thursday Night Football. While Tennis gets et for an incredible tournament over the weekend.

There is a lot to get into, so let's get it on!

MLB:

The Yankees won the first two games of their series against the Boston Red Sox(3-2,10-1), but lost the third and final game in the Bronx 11-6, handing the Red Sox, the Al East title.

Game one had everything, a special surprise, mother nature, and of course, was one of those games, where it went down to the last batter.

At 10:30 AM, on Tuesday(9/18), it was announced, that the slated start time between the Yankees and Sox, was pushed back six hours, from 1:05, to 7:05, due to inclement weather.

This gave New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, time to rip apart his 1PM lineup card and insert a familiar face, number 99 Aaron Judge!!!

Judge was finally back in the starting lineup for the first time in 12 weeks, due to injury.

As for the game itself, the Yankees were trying to not let Boston clinch the Al East, in their house, but to do that, the Yankees would need to somehow someway sweep the series, and it started with Tuesday's game.

It was an expected pitchers duel in the Bronx, as JA Happ went for the Yankees , while Nathan Evoldi, went for the Bosox.

As they say, "One run feels like 100, in a pitchers duel",and it sure did feel like that for most of the game,as the Red Sox struck first, in the top od the 3rd when JD Martinez notched a sac fly.

That run was keyed by a leadoff walk,a balk, and a passed ball,by Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez.

Happ would settle down after that, as he finished with six innings of one-run ball, including getting out of a first and third one out jam, by inducing a popout and a strikeout.

Meanwhile, Nathan Evoldi was brilliant, as he pitched six scoreless innings, while only allowing two hits, keeping the Bosox in front.

However, in the bottom of the second, the Yankees proved, that sometimes all you need is one swing to win a ballgame, as with two runners on, and one out, Neil Walker, smashed a 3 runHR, off Brandon Workman, to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead! Delin Betances worked a clean 8th for the Yankees, and just like that, the Yankees turned to Zach Britton to close it out.

But it wasn't all sunny skies in the 9th, as with runners on first and second with one out, Gleyber Torres, let the ball get by him, on the Yankees game-ending DP ( double play) attempt.

Then, Zach Brittion made a throwing error, to second base, that scored a run, and all of a sudden the Yankees seemed like they were going to get what they deserve, a loss.

But that didn't happen,as the Yankees made the DP on the third time which gave them a 3-2 win over the Bosox!

Notes:

Aaron Judge hit the ball hard, but went 0 for 4, with one SO (Strikeout) on the loss.

Game two, was all Yankees, as they rolled to a 10-1 win!

Miguel Andujar and Luke Voit (2x) went deep off David Price who continued his woes at Yankee stadium.

Aaron Judge drove in two runs by drilling ball, threw the legs of Red shortstop Eduardo Nunez in the second inning.

As for the pitching, Luis Severino was amazing with 7 innings of 1 run ball, and Justis Sheffield made his MLB debut in the 9th, and worked a scoreless inning, by getting out of bases loaded, one out jam, with a DP!

The finale, was a slugfest, as Eduardo Rodiguez, and Masahiro Tanaka, both didn't have their stuff on Thursday night(9/20), as the Red Sox clinched the AL East , with an 11-6 win over the Yankees.

The game started out great for the Bosox, as JD Martinez, cracked an RBI single in the top of the first which gave the Sox an early 1-0 lead.

That cushion was padded in the top of the second inning when Mookie Betts came through with a 2out,2 strike, 2 run single, that gave the Bosox a 3-0 lead.

But as they say, " You live by the HR,and die by the HR" and that is what the Yankees have done this year so far and continued to do so, last night ,as Luke Voit continued his ot streak in the bottom of the second with a 2runHR , that cut the Red Sox lead to 3-2.

That lead became 4-2 when Brock Holt went yard in the top of the 4th to give the Red Sox a 2run cushion.

However, the Yankees weren't going to go down without a fight and it showed , when three Yankees reached, all with two outs, which set the stage for Giancarlo Stanton, who mashed a grand slam into the right -field seats, to give the Yankees a two -run lead of 6-4 after four innings of play!

But Boston, ( Like they have done all year), showed their relentness, and came back with 7 unanswered runs.

A DP RBI groundout by JD Martinez in the 5th got it started . But it all really got started in the 7th, when Jackie Bradley JR took the starch out of Giancarlo’s grand slam, and homered to tie the game at 6.

Then later in the inning , with the bases loaded and one out , Xander Bogarts lofted a fly ball to center field , that gave JD Martinez a chance to score , which he did however, the throw by Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks was to bouncy and bounced away allowing the Red Sox to score two runs on the play, giving them an 8-6 lead.

The Yankees looked cooked after that , and continued to do to , as Red Sox reliver Steven Wright pitched three magnificent innings after the Stanton slam.

The Red Sox added some insult to injury in the top of the 8th when Mookie Betts uncorked a 3 run HR into the left field seats off Aroldis Chapman , who was pitching for the first time in a month due to injury.

The final score ended up being 11-6 , as the Joyous Red Sox hugged on the Yankee Stadium mound , as they celebrated their AL East clincher in house of their rivals .

Opinion:

Tip of the cap to Boston, they were incredible, and the better team this regular season, they came through when they needed to , stymied us at every chance they got.

Red Sox record 104-49

The Yankees ( 93-59), now only lead the Oakland Athletics by 1.5 games for the first AL Wild card spot with 10 games left to play.

Notes :

The Yankees now have 247 HRs a franchise record!

Luke Voit’s game 3 HR put the Yankees in the record books. They now have 12 players with at least 10 HRs , an MLB Record for most in a season.

Up next :

The Yankees will host the woeful Baltimore Orioles (44-108) , in a three game set in the Bronx, that starts on Friday .

CC Sabathia will get the ball for the Yankees, while Yeffrey Ramirez will get the ball for the O’s

NFL:

BROWNS FINALLY WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Cleveland Browns finally won a football game on Thursday night (9/20) , as they defeated the New York Jets 21-17 in Cleveland.

The win , is the Browns first in 635 days , and it also means that finally Cleveland gets freeeeeeeeeee Beeeeeeeeeeers!!!!!!

It didn’t look that way early, as the Jets rolled to a 14-0 lead, as Isiah Crowell , had Two TDS, and the Jets offense was just all over Browns QB Tyrod Taylor .

That was until Taylor left the game with a Concussion, and in trotted in rookie , and the no 1 overall pick , Baker Mayfield.

Baker immediately, took charge, late in the first half and led the Browns to a FG to cut the Jets lead to 14-3 , at the break .

That seemed to inspire the Browns defense , who started pressuring Sam Darnold, that forced a lot of 3 and outs for the Jets .

Baker led the Browns to get another FG , with his acrobatics , and quick throws , that seemed to energize Browns nation , and the players on the team .

Down 14-6, Mayfield marched his team down the field for a TD late in the third quarter, to get the Browns within two points, before the Browns ran the “Cleveland Special “, and tied the game with Mayfield making the catch!

With the game tied after 3, both QBs took their time in the 4t,

Sam Darnold had a solid drive which led to a go ahead FG to give the Jets a 17-14 lead , with around 9:30 to go in the game .

But Mayfield, came right back leading his team to a touchdown with 2:04 to go , and suddenly it was 21-17 Browns!!!

But hold your horses , the Browns still needed a stop , and first down to seal this win.

They got it ,when Joe Schobert intercepted Sam Darnold with 1:11 to go , that sent the Browns faithful into a frenzy!

However , the Browns couldn’t get the first down , giving Sam one more chance with 56 seconds left.

But Darnold sealed the Jets fate , when he threw yet another interception to , with 11 seconds left , giving the Browns the win !!!!!!!!!

The Browns are 1-1-1

Jets : 1-2.

NBA:

Jimmy Butler has requested a trade to the New York Knicks or the Brooklyn Nets.

The Knicks have said they will wait till 2019 free agency to sign Butler, so that means Brooklyn is the favorite.

Ralph J Jamal:

NFL QUESTION:

WHICH 0-2 TEAM DO YOU THINK WILL BOUNCE BACK?

I think that it will be the Houston Texans bouncing back .

I really liked the fight I saw from them in the first two weeks of the season against the Patriots, and Titans.

They face the New York Giants in their home opener on Sunday (9/22) , at 1 PM.

Hope the NYG will get the win but I know it will be tough one, with Deandre Hopkins , Will Fuller, and Watson for Houston.

Wild card starter power rankings :

.1. JA Happ ( 1)

2.Luis Severino (3)

3.Masahiro Tanaka (2)

4. Cc Sabathia ( 4)

5. Lance Lyyn (5)

6. Sonny Gray (6)
