It’s actually happening! Game 7 of the World Series is coming up tonight from Minute Maid Park in Houston at 8:08 PM EST and I can’t wait! It will be the “Super team” in the 107-55 Houston Astros against the Cinderella story 93-69 Washington Nationals. David will meet Goliath one more time to conclude this epic and historic series that has seen the visitors win all 6 games making it the 1st time in MLB history that has happened.
The pitchers for this decisive game will be two former CY Young award winners. Max Scherzer for the Nats, against Zack Greinke of the Astros.
Both of these guys are coming off very good outings, as in game 2, Max went 5 innings of 2 run ball in the 12-3 win, while Greinke went 4.2 innings of 1 run ball in a 4-1 game 3 win in Washington.
Because of length, I give the starting advantage to Washington here.
But the big story of this game will be the bullpens which has everyone available, including last nights starters, Nats Stephen Strasburg and Stros Justin Verlander. It will also be a battle to see who will score with RISP( Runners in scoring position) which both teams have struggled to do at points in the series.
Overall I give the bullpen advantage to Houston and the RISP advantage to Washington based on there performances this postseason and especially this World Series.
Last but not least, lots of pressure will be on Astros manger AJ Hinch And Nationals manager Dave Martinez to make smart decisions especially when the game reaches the “Bullpen point”. I give Houston the edge in this category because of the experience that AJ has over Dave is these pressure-packed game 7s.
So you have seen the breakdown and it is overall, very evenly matched which is what a 3-3 series should be. But now it is time for the reason why you are reading this... who do I think gets there hands on the trophy tonight?
PREDICTION:
The game begins and the Nats get off to a hot start as RBIs by Ryan Zimmerman and Howie Kendrick in the 1st give Washington an early 2-0 lead off Zack Greinke.
As for Max Scherzer, he keeps the Astros bats at bay through the first 4 innings before Houston finally gets to him in the 5th, as José Altuve demolishes a 2run blast to even the contest at 2 runs apiece. With both starters out of the game by the 7th inning (As Zack goes 5 innings, while Max goes 6) and the game still tied at 2, the Astros send Ryan Presley to the mound, who promptly gives up a go-ahead blast to Adam Eaton to give the Nats the lead, before an RBI double by Yan Gomes gives the Nationals a 4-2 lead, as the DC faithful could smell that elusive World Series title now just 9 outs away.
After Daniel Hudson goes 2 scoreless, the Nats turn it over to closer Sean Doolittle to close out the World Series. But it’s this game where unlikely heroes rise and it happens here, as down to there final 2 outs of the season with a man on, Josh Reddick hits one to the Crawford Boxes to send the “Juice Box” into a delirium and even this game at 4 after 9 innings of play!
In the 10th, Astros reliver Will Harris enters for his second inning of work after having already pitched a scoreless 9th and after allowing a man to reach base, gives up a 2run blast to the young 21 year old Juan Soto who drops the hammer once again as Washington takes a 6-4 lead 10th inning lead which would be enough, as Patrick Corbin would come on and lock it down in the bottom half of the 10th to clinch one of the best Cinderella stories in sports history as the Nationals shock the Astros and win the World Series in a 7th game for the ages.
WORLD SERIES MVP:
Juan Soto
WORLD SERIES LVP:
JUSTIN VERLANDER: I know he doesn’t appear in this game but the fact that he went 0-2 in this World Series will come back to haunt Houston should the Astros fall tonight.
