YANKEES GET GUMBY’d! MONTY FALTERS, AS YANKEES FALL LATE TO PHILLIES.

You win some, you lose some and that’s what happened to the Yankees on Thursday night, as they fell short in an exhilarating 5-4 loss to the Phillies, who salvaged a split of the 4 game series this week against New York.

Jordan Montgomery, who was coming off an impressive debut against the Red Sox when he went 5.2 innings of 1 run ball, struggled early and often tonight, as a 3 run homer by JT Realmunto gave the Phillies a 3-0 lead, forcing the Yankees hand early. However, the Yankees would answer back, as the red-hot Mike Tauchman drove in 2 runs with a 2 run single of his own to bring the Yankees to within 3-2 in the 2nd. But the Phillies would answer back once again, as a 2 run double by Phil Gosslin extended the lead to 5-2, before Gary Sanchez’s first homeroom the season in the 7th that drove in 2 runs, brought the Yankees to within a run. The Yankees would have their chances in the final 2 innings, but Phillies closer Hector Neris would strike out Aaron Judge with the game-tying run on 3rd in the 8th, before recovering from back to back 2 out singles by Mike Tuchman and DJ LeMahuie, to get Luke Voit to fly out to right, that was just shy of clearing the wall for a homer, which clinched a 5-4 Phillies victory. What shouldn’t go united, is the stellar play of Jonathan Holder and Adam Ottavino, who combined for 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Monty to keep the game close.

UP NEXT: The Yankees (9-3), will head to Tropicana Field for a 4 game series against the 2nd best team in the AL East in the 5-7 Rays. It will be Blake Snell against Masahior Tanaka with first pitch set for 6:40 PM.
