Isn't Philadelphia supposed to be the city of Brotherly love ? Where you show love and mercy to your brothers?
Well the Yankees weren’t willing to be a part of any brotherhood in Philly ,and they showed it at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night as they destroyed the Phillies 6-0 behind their ace Luis Severino and their red-hot offense.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GAME APPROACH?
It wasn't supposed to be this way, it was supposed to be one of those nights where the aces ( both teams number 1 pitchers) make the batters look like jokers and mostly irrelevant in the game.
The Yankees sent out Luis Severino to the mound for tonight's game , while the Phillies countered with their ace Jake Arrieta.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE GAME?
Well once the game started , as if BP( batting practice) wasn't enough, ( referring to Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton's mammoth homerun in BP). The Yankees started the game with a HR , as Aaron Hicks mashed the 3rd pitch of the game from Arrieta into the right field seats for a leadoff homer and an early 1-0 Yankees lead.
The Bombers wouldn't stop there ,and would continue their offensive explosion in the 3rd inning as Gleyber Torres would get in on the fun by grounding a two- out , two run single to give the yankees a 3 run cushion.
Greg Bird would follow suit immediately as he plated yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius with an RBI single just 6 pitches after Torres racked up a couple of RBIs himself.
In the top of the 4th, the Bombers would get their final runs of the game as Aaron Hicks would rack up his second RBI of the night by notching a sac fly to plate Austin Romine. But the big lumber of the 4th inning would come from Didi Gregorious as he would launch one to right field and make yankees fans uglorious!
Just like that it was 6-0 yankees and that was more than enough offense for tonight.
Meanwhile on defense, Luis Severino was outstanding as he went 7 innings while allowing 0 runs on 6 hits meanwhile striking out 9 ( threw 103 pitches).
As for the bullpen, Adam Warren , Chasen shreve , and a leaping catch at the wall by Aaron Hicks in the 8th inning preserved the shutout.
