It was a fitting finish to Yeshiva Roller Hockey's season-opening day. After having a mixed bag of results earlier, taking down Vermont and then falling to Hofstra, we faced off against Stony Brook in a Sunday showdown.
Now, Stony Brook came out swinging and took advantage of a few slip-ups on Yeshiva’s part. A high stick by Benji Froom gave Stony Brook the upper hand, and Kevin Burgwin made it 1-0. Then, just a bit later, Nicholas Mango set up Burgwin for another goal, and suddenly, the Macs were down 2-0.
During the first intermission , team leaders - Zach Levy, Yoni Drazin, and Sol Feder - had a little chat with the squad. They wanted more urgency and to match Stony Brook's intensity. The message was clear, even though the initial response wasn't perfect.
Then, the Macs woke up from their slumber. Just 15 seconds after Kevin Burgwin made it 3-0, Zach Levy found Yoni Drazin, and we were back in business. The power play kicked into high gear, with Yoni Drazin and Zach Levy playing a game of catch. A shot from the point got tipped in by EITAN Levy, and Yeshiva was within striking distance.
A few moments later, a delayed penalty on Stony Brook meant they had an extra man, and Gabriel Rosenblatt found Drazin to tie things up. Talk about a rollercoaster of a game - three goals in just over six minutes!
Yet that wasn't the end of it. Ariel Greenberg found Yoni Drazin, who then set up Feder for the lead. Feder showed why he's on this team. . He wrapped up the day with four goals and seven points in just three games. Impressive, right? Needing insurance, a Rosenblatt clapper in the third made it 5-3. The YU defenseman was stellar on both ends, while contributing two goals and and two assists in the three games.
Stony Brook did manage to sneak one past Micheal Mintz, but it was, too late. Yeshiva held on for a thrilling 5-4 victory, ending the weekend on a high note.
