Yeshiva Ice Hockey Maul Beavers For Second Straight win.

Updated: Feb 9, 2024

It was a Beaver beatdown from start to finish. After recording their first win in program history against NJIT on Sunday, the Yeshiva University Men’s Ice Hockey team routed the City College of New York  Beavers 10-4 on Tuesday night at a raucous Riverstate Park.

Things started slowly, with the Beavers' goaltender standing tall and thwarting Yeshiva’s early attempts. The Macs knew it was only a matter of time before they broke through, but saying they did that in the second period is an understatement.

Less than a minute into the frame, Ezra Nussbaum made a slick play, setting up Yoni Berger for a sweet goal from the slot. Then, Beni Froom got in on the action, courtesy of a perfect feed from Nussbaum, making it 2-0. Not to be outdone, Coby Cohen joined the party with another goal, making it 3-0.

CCNY managed to sneak one home on an odd-man rush, sending their home crowd into a frenzy. The fans were ready for Beaver fever, but Froom had other plans.

Right off the ensuing faceoff, he snagged the puck, raced down the ice, and buried it, making it 4-1. Nussbaum and Froom were feeling it, each goals to Yeshiva’s tally, with Froom even completing a hat trick, as Yeshiva took a 6-1 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, Froom kept the momentum going with another early goal, making it 7-1 the Beavers clawed their way back to make it 7-4, keeping the Macs on their toes. Yet, any thought of things slipping away was quickly put to rest. Captain Sol Feder unleashed a couple of powerful shots from the point, with William Jacob and Eytan Ghermezian cashing in to pad the lead. And to put the icing on the cake, Froom completed his four-goal, seven-point night, finding Yonah Suissa for one final tally, sealing the deal with a resounding 10-4 victory.

Now, amidst all the excitement, spare a thought for Marvin Azrak. Despite his best efforts with numerous scoring chances each shift, he couldn't find the back of the net tonight. His hard work didn't go unnoticed by his teammates, though. Meanwhile, between the pipes, goaltender Matthew Loren stood firm and helped the Macs skate away with another impressive win.
